ON NOVEMBER 9, ex-CIA counterterrorism officer Michael Scheuer gave an interview to the Washington Post's Dana Priest. Scheuer, who ran the CIA's bin Laden unit from 1996-99, and whose latest book, Imperial Hubris (published under the pseudonym "Anonymous"), criticizes the Bush administration's counterterrorism policies in general and the Iraq war in particular, wanted to talk about his former employer. Scheuer told Priest that his bosses at the CIA (he gave the interview prior to leaving the agency) had "diluted the pool that supports our people overseas," which meant that "in the long term, we're less safe than we should be." What's more, Scheuer added, CIA management can't take criticism. Just look at what happened with his latest book. "As long as the book was being used to bash the president, they gave me carte blanche to talk to the media," Scheuer said. When Scheuer started attacking the CIA in interviews along with the president, agency brass forbade him from talking to the media.
Scheuer's stunning admission--that CIA officials actively promoted a book criticizing the administration they work for--has garnered some attention, mostly from conservative columnists like Robert Novak and David Brooks. But one question remained unanswered throughout the coverage--who, exactly, were "they"? Who gave Scheuer carte blanche to attack Bush? At a breakfast with reporters on Friday, Scheuer gave his answer: former CIA spokesman Bill Harlow.

I sided with them when the liberals were out to get them.
I hope the new Director would have the guts to clean all the varmints inside.
After W supported him for so long, George Tenet tries to stab W in the back! Outrageous! Just shows how naive W was to leave Klintonites like Tenet in place. All of the folks Tenet brought in should be fired. And State needs even more fumigation.
Isn't this stuff a violation of their Oath or something?
Someone needs some quiet time in a jail cell...
So, when is "W" finally going to dump that idiot Norman Mineta?
If captured, torture wouldn't be necessary to get him to talk. A prime time television spot would be plenty.
Maybe he'd hold out for a limo to the studio, if he was feeling ballsy.
What do you mean tried, he did stab him in the back. Bush was able to survive the attack thank God.
George Tenet never stopped stabbing George Bush in the back. Tenet was spoke out publicly again and again to insist that there was no connection between al Qaeda and Saddam. Tenet insisted again and again that there was no meeting in Prague, although Czech intelligence officials insisted that there was.
Even as we post on this thread, the CIA is making more trouble for Bush in Iraq, according to a report from Laurie Mylroie.
Thank God Bush has finally decided to do something about this situation. I hope he understands that the FBI is in equal need of a housecleaning, because the top ranks are stuffed with clintonoids, and Sessions actually seems to be encouraging them.
Shocking! Liberals stabbing people in the back and being incapable of gratitude or loyalty!

Retired CIA Director George Tenet is said to blame Condoleezza Rice for not keeping America safe from the 9/11 attacks in a book proposal for his memoir currently being shopped to publishers.
-snip-
"He claims she was incompetent, that she didn't do her job" before 9/11, the source said. Adding to the speculation is the involvement in the book project of Robert Barnett - the onetime Whitewater lawyer for Bill and Hillary Clinton who negotiated record book deals for the former first couple. Barnett is currently shopping the Tenet proposal. [snip]

Girly CIA male blames the girl !!! So what else is new??
And this is the guy who assured President Bush that it was a "slam-dunk" that he would find stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq.
Who other than other girly males and air-head females are gonna be buying HIS book????
Rumor has it that Tenet is shopping a book which rips the heck outta Condi Rice.
These people have no shame. George Tenet doesn't impress me - I thought he was an arrogant b*st*rd during the 9-11 hearings. I can see my instincts were correct.
(Scheuer) said that Harlow would've needed authorization from his superiors for such a move. Harlow's superior at the time? Former CIA director George Tenet.
The only wonder is, what took President Bush so long to fire this Democrat holdover?
Do you happen to have a link to Milroie's article?
Can any of us imagine what the frame of mind we would be in, if we could ever know the "plan" that was concocted in those wonderful days at Yale?
More on that book....
I'm socked. I thought George Tenet was an honorable man. Mr Tenet, why??
I'm sorry. I can't agree with your abysmal view of the situation. The President is an honorable man and would not lie at the risk of people's lives.
You seem to have disappeared, but I see what you are saying - the CIA does need to become un-political - but going into Iraq was the right thing, and euro or not, Saddam needed to be removed. I can't imagine why Condi and Powell would've said such silly things. Clearly he was a threat - more than we thought - especially with him being propped up by the UN and France.
On a side note, those death toll numbers are way too exaggerated. And like the CIA, we need to trust this President - he's a strong leader.
