Blacksburg social activists listed as missing following suspected arson

The fire's cause had not yet been determined in what police are calling "a very vague crime scene."

By Shay Barnhart 981-3665 The New River Valley Current

PEARISBURG - Giles County sheriff's investigators are looking for two Blacksburg social activists who haven't been seen since Thursday morning, when a cabin in Newport that was home to one of them was destroyed by fire.

Sue Daniels, 44, who lived in the cabin, and her friend, Niklan Jones-Lezama, 40, have been listed in a national database of missing people, said Lt. Willie Lucas of the Giles County Sheriff's Office. Newport firefighters were called to Daniels' cabin on Spruce Run Road outside Newport about 7:20 a.m. Thursday. Firefighters found what turned out to be an animal's remains, probably a stray dog, in the rubble and called investigators, Lucas said.

Yeah. We never get together though. We should have a local meeting at Mountain View or something.

We had a nice young dear over Thanksgiving. Upchuck was up for the weekend and enjoyed his first venison tenderloin stew.

Love venison!!! Older daughter (22) just bummed some from my dad. As a grad student, she thinks it's cheap and good...grin. My feller makes the best venison stew you ever ate. Yummy.

If you plan something, I can really only get with y'all on Saturdays or Saturday night, unless it's during a school break. Friday night would be tight. Where's Mountain View?

On another note, we are going to the Freeper Inaugural Ball on Jan 20th... Anybody else planning to attend?

"With potatoes or dumplings?"

That's improper grammar for SW VA.

It's taters and dumplins'

Yes, the deer venison stew was delish.

I can also testify that Tax Relief can prepare a great buffalo shoulder. Yummy!!

(That was a wonderful time, TR. Thanks again!)

There are a few, although most have the sense to live outside that den of DUmmies (such as moi) in surrounding red counties.

You guys do realize that Roanoke city went for sKerry, don't you?

Oops, glad I don't have to write for a living! I should have written "although most (such as moi)have the sense to live outside that den of DUmmies"

I'm aware of that. Roanoke County was heavily for Bush, SKerry took the city.

Nothing worse than being out in Roanoke at 2AM and taking a wrong turn onto a road that ends up somewhere that looks like Harlem. I've done it lol.

I'm not sure where Tax Relief got the buffalo (someplace local, I think). But it sure was good!

Oh, I can top that. Try navigating Rt 24 through southeast, now that the rocket scientists in the city have instituted "traffic calming". Motorists take their lives in their hands. I am going to laugh my head off the first time the city has to shovel snow in that corridor. Serves them right.

Darlene Burcham is a real prize - NOT!
