Bust 5 suspects in turkey toss
NY Daily News ^ | November 19, 2004 | Robert Gearty, Jose Martinez and Dave Goldiner

Members of a heartless Long Island gang that hurled a 20-pound turkey through a driver's windshield were nabbed last night as the victim lay in a coma, cops said. Nearly every bone in the woman's face was broken when the bird was tossed from a moving car - hitting her with a force equivalent to a bowling ball dropped from a 20-story building and causing her to lose control of the steering wheel.

Three (3) times this afternoon I watched this story get reported on CNN Headline News as if it were a humorous story out of New York. It wasn't until I read this article that I realized otherwise. But, even the 'headline writer" at the Daily News treated it like it was a funny story.

These sick a$$holes should be dropped from a 20 story building face first.

Give me five 20-lb blocks of ice, all those punks tied to a chair, 10 minutes alone with them, and no questions asked. That's all I want.

Can we bring back public flogging?

"He's a good kid, but we can't believe he would be involved in something this stupid."

Why do they always say this? They bought the turkey with a stolen credit card.

This reminds me of a story from a few years back about some kids who had removed a stop sign for a prank. The only problem was that three people where killed in the resulting accident. Some of those kids got up to 15 years in jail, although they're probably all out on parole by now.

Not only did these kids commit criminal assault, but they also used a stolen credit card to buy the turkey. This is no joke.

It says it was a fresh turkey, had it been frozen, would they be charged with murder....or "mischief"?

Why do they always say this?

Ranks right up there with, "He was always so quiet" after some schmuck goes on a homicidal rampage.

I can only imagine what the poor woman must look like.

Then the POS punks should be tattooed with a large Star of David and dropped in the middle of Mosul.

It sounds like they bought the turkey just for this purpose and waited for a good target and he only gets 1st degree assault?

This should be upgraded to assualt with a deadly weapon. They were all over 17 years old, and they had to know that a 20lb turkey at 60MPH had the power to kill. If this poor woman dies, they should all be charged with 2nd degree murder.

Good kids steal credit cards.

I would prosecute every last one of those goons for attempted murder. Of course I would give the jury the option of a lesser charge. Kids need to get a strong message about thinking before acting.

2nd degree murder is what I told my wife last night. Those kids are lucky they are not in OK or west Texas.

Kids? No, they should be tried as the immature sick adults that they are.

Really. I try to be a civilized person but some things just push my buttons. This kind of cruelty should be dealt with harshly. They were, no matter what they claim now, trying to hurt someone.

Well they did. As public flogging is unfortunately out of the question I say lock 'em up until they are to old to remember what a turkey looks like.

The turkey was frozen, but they can't be charged with murder since no one died, although a woman was seriously injured.

I think the MSM has shown itself to be immature and the FReepers who have posted here have shown themselves to be mature.

Not one FR poster took this as a joke, but the Headline Reader at CNN and the Headline Writer at the Daily News both thought that there was a 'Humorous" angle to the "story".

Maybe there is too much "Entertainment" in the "News" when the MSM News Industry takes news like this as a joke, or as a prop for a joke.
