WASHINGTON — Pakistan's military has been so effective in pressuring Al Qaeda leaders hiding in the tribal region of western Pakistan that Usama bin Laden and his top deputies no longer are able to direct terrorist operations, a senior American commander said Thursday.

"They are living in the remotest areas of the world without any communications — other than courier — with the outside world or their people and unable to orchestrate or provide command and control over a terrorist network," said Lt. Gen. Lance Smith, deputy commander of Central Command.

"They are basically on the run and unable to really conduct operations except, in the very long term, provide vision and guidance as Usama bin Laden does when he provides one of those tapes," he added, alluding to a bin Laden video tape released three weeks ago.

Bin Laden has been on the run since U.S. forces invaded Afghanistan in October 2001.

I thought we had quit looking for Bin Laden so we could fight in the wrong place at the wrong time. That's what John Kerry told me anyway.

Kerry was in Vietnam, but they really downplayed it during the election. I think mostly because they didn't want to take 4 months of mostly bogus service and make him seem like some kind of war hero. It was probably the right thing to do.

[They are basically on the run and unable to really conduct operations...]

Isn't this pretty much what President Bush said he was going to do in September, 2001?

Yes! Yes, he was! He received four purple hearts for paper cuts, and has applied for his fifth due to the butt-whipping he received during our recent presidential election!

IT is so much cooler for the Pakistan military to get these terrorists over the USA. Another thing Kerry and the ignorant Dems don't understand.. President Bush and team do have what is called a strategy.

The Pakistanis are supposed to be our allies...what were they doing letting Bin Laden be on the commission in the first place?

I'm continually amazed at the persistance and spirit of our Pakistani Allies. I never thought they'd be doing as well as they are.

Former presidential candidate's new mantra: "Kerry on!" ... I thought "kerry on" (carrion) meant "dead meat." Perhaps he selected a fitting slogan! Let's hope so.
