James Carville, the failed court jester of the left, unwittingly revealed a key insight as to why the Democrat Party is presently floundering so severely. In a statement made this past weekend to Tim Russert, Carville asserted that the purpose of political parties is merely ''to get people elected.''
According to such thinking, political philosophies and/or principles are either incidental, or entirely irrelevant to the party affiliation of those seeking elective office. Judging from the actions of Democrats during the most recent election cycle, Carvilles admission cannot be denied.
Once again, Democrats throughout the country, and particularly their de facto leader John Kerry, were willing to take any stance, on any side of the issues, in hopes of persuading a majority of the populace of being like-minded with them. And once again, come Election Day, this ruse failed miserably.
From their outset, political parties were never intended to serve the purposes of those at their innermost echelons. Rather, they were instituted as a means of implementing a particular agenda. The inherent strength of numbers resulted in an assembling of like-minded individuals who, in the hopes of seeing their common interests realized, established a ''platform'' of ideas that defined them.
Yet for many who rise to the top of such organizations, the seductive lure of power and prestige often overtake any originating cause. It is at the point that the party leadership presumes itself and its interests to be of sole importance that it risks completely losing touch with its base.
As the evening of November 2 wore on, it became increasingly obvious that such a ''disconnect'' had taken place among the Democrats. In the wake of the election, they are desperately trying to pick up the pieces. The problem is that they dare not attempt to do so by being honest about what they really are.
Fortunately for the likes of Carville, all is not lost. Such flawed thinking is not exclusive to the Democrats. Many among the Republican ''Moderates'' hold to similar ideas, even positing them as ''conventional wisdom.'' Nevertheless, Carvilles inadvertent candor serves to highlight the action of Democrats that occurred prior to the election, and have gone into high gear in its aftermath.
At present, several convoluted messages are being loudly broadcast by prominent Democrats. Among the most contradictory are their claims that, on the one hand, Christian Conservatives are to blame for their diminishing electoral fortunes. Yet on the other hand, they need to reinvent themselves so as to better appeal to those very people.
Among the most transparent attempts of doing so was the recent presentation of the Gospel according to Saint Hillary, offered in the days following the election. Initially, she claimed to be of a like mind with Americas Christian voters. But then, in virtually the same breath, she attempted to redefine Christianity, not surprisingly, in liberal and socialist terms.
Clearly, Hillary was seeking to follow in the footsteps of the ''Reverend'' Jesse Jackson, who employed this same line of thinking while stumping for John Kerry. According to Jackson, Christians ought not let themselves be sidetracked by such purely partisan and subjective issues as Biblical truth and morality, but should instead focus on the things that he considered spiritually important, government handouts and the other precepts of liberalism being chief among them.
Stumbling forth from the aftershocks of Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschles loss in South Dakota (an event that carries almost as much significance as the presidential election), Senate Democrats are attempting their own image makeover by replacing Daschle with Senator Harry Reid of Nevada.
Reid, ostensibly a ''pro-life'' Democrat, might be an improvement over Daschles partisanship and obstruction. No doubt, his ascension to the position of minority leader is meant to be perceived that way. But Reid was hardly an outspoken critic of Daschles antics. Nor did he lead the charge to break Daschles stonewalling.
It is obvious that the failed ideologies of the left, so firmly entrenched at the core of the Democrat power structure, arent going away any time soon. Meanwhile, occasional lapses into honesty by key players such as Carville can remind us that their ultimate intentions really havent changed a bit.
So the same old failed liberal agenda will likely be repackaged, in hopes that the public might eventually fall for it. The only alternative is to increase the shrillness and venom of their condemnation of conservatism. And lately that approach hasnt served them too well.

I was truly hoping they would move even farther left. I hear the DNC is issuing Bibles and tapes on "How to achieve an authentic southern accent that even your friends will believe" to all its constituency.

Ann Coulter said it best....
"Some Democrats are so despondent they've contemplated (hushed whisper) prayer. They're just not sure if they're supposed to pray to Bill Clinton or to their "Higher Power."
These people would go to seminary if they thought it would help get them elected. What a bunch of crooked phonies.
They showed their hand at the Rat convention, which was a theatre of remarkably phony "moderation." The problem was that the MSM - normally Rat allies - couldn't stop commenting about the scrubbed speeches, the tame lineup of speakers, the muted voices of Rat "outrage".
That, and the memorable Thune/Dachle appearance on Meet The Press, where Thune did a fine job exposing Daschle's immense hypocrisy, voting on the left while campaigning on the right. I think even Daschle was intimidated by Thune's stark honesty.

Sidetracked??? I knew he wasn't really a reverend, not in the religious terms. Hell has a door with his name on it.
The Democratic Party's political philosphy is very simple. Convince 51% of the electorate to somehow vote for them by saying anything. Once in office do as your special interest groups dictate. When running for re-election, repeat the actions required to get that 51% again. Thus John Kerry tried to pass himself off as a war hero who would be more hawkish on the WOT than President Bush, went bird shooting and regaled us with stories of crawling on his belly deer hunting to show what a supporter of the 2ND Amendment he was, stated that he believes life begins at conception despite a voting record consistently supporting abortion rights and so on and so on. He was avidly supported in this by the MSM. Fortunately in a time of war and a new media a-borning, this failed.
Who's 'we', exactly? And if you can tell me specifically what you didn't like, perhaps I can help you.
What? Center left?
Also, we must all work diligently in the coming months to convince progressives that the Democratic Party has let them down. They must abandon the party. Their only recourse is to join and work for the Green Party moving forward. I may even register as a Green Party member to swell their voter registration rolls. Divide and conquer.
Begin with putting all known progressives in your sphere of influence on the Green Party mail list from their website. Great fun. Start inundating them with information now.
Last night while watching Hannity and Bones, Ny ears began to burn when Bob Beckel, the Dummo strategist referred to his belief in God and in his Christian Faith.
I almost choked on my coffee!! Never, in the years and the many times I have heard this man speak, can I recall even once this man ever mentioning God or any refernce to God.
Their insincerity and just plain phony comitment to a religion or God is so obvious it stinks. These people have been away from God for so long, if they ever had been near him, they need to sincerely repent and it will show, other wise they will stink.
The problem with the Dummycrats is they don't realize "saying it" is not the same as "believing it". It's funny they've never picked up on the idea that the country is conservative.
But they sure fell all over themselves after the primaries to appear to move to the center. If you change your "style" while running, then you'll do anything while in office. The vast majority of Americans vote for substance, not party. And if the dummycrats can't seem to grab on to this. Tough!
That's all they do....really.
not true..liberals will always be liberals as long as the "Dummies" allow liberals to run their party.
Doogle
LMAO - Kerry did not have to speak -his record speaks volumes...
Sometimes you have to go with your 'best' option -if gut feel is all you have, go with gut feel and vote --next time vote. To be effective the key is to be able to make decisions and corrections as necessary -indecision -even nuanced is not a leadership trait -it may be a trait of a senator from Massachusetts but not a President
"Can I get me a huntin' license here?"
