"Al-Zarqawi Lieutenant Arrested in Mosul"
(AP)
Thursday, November 25, 2004
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "BAGHDAD, Iraq A lieutenant of Iraq's most feared terrorist leader Abu Musab al-Zarqawi (search) was captured a few days ago in Mosul, and Iraqi troops searching suspected terrorist hideouts in Fallujah (search) discovered a laboratory with manuals on manufacturing explosives and toxins including anthrax, Iraq's national security adviser said Thursday.
Also, the U.S. military said it discovered the "largest weapons cache to date in the city of Fallujah." The weapons including anti-tank mines and a mobile bomb-making lab were found inside a mosque used by an insurgent leader. Troops also found documents detailing hostage interrogations, the military said.
Five Arab foreign fighters who escaped from Fallujah were arrested near southern Basra, where they were planning to attack coalition bases and police stations, authorities said."

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Terrorists have become film directors and the video camera is their most powerful weapon, with the West a captive audience. In the week of Margaret Hassan's killing, Jason Burke explores the phenomenon of the reality horror show
When they kicked down the door of the living room of a house in the western Iraqi city of Falluja on Friday, US marines from the 3/5 Lima Company discovered an improvised television studio equipped with video cameras, banks of computers and cutting-edge editing equipment.
According to Captain Ed Batinga, who led the soldiers, an off-white wall behind a wooden table at one side of the room was spattered with blood and draped with the black-and-gold flag of the Islamic militant group believed to be behind the killing of dozens of hostages in Iraq in recent months.
The marines were too late to save Margaret Hassan, a slim, spry, 59-year-old Irish-born woman who had lived in Iraq for 32 years, and was shot dead at point-blank range by an Iraqi insurgent some time last week. She had been held captive for nearly a month and died dressed in a Guantanamo Bay-style orange jumpsuit.
The first and last act of Mrs Hassan's abductors was to release a videotape. The first reached the television station al-Jazeera within hours of Mrs Hassan being taken hostage. The last, which has not yet been broadcast, shows her death.
The videos are one of the most shocking elements of the war in Iraq. Scores have now been released by Iraqi insurgents. To many the terrorists' use of the media seems a radical innovation. It isn't.

Revised Recommendations for Malaria Prophylaxis in Dominican Republic
(Released November 24, 2004)
CDC has received reports of 2 cases of malaria in November 2004 in U.S. travelers to the Dominican Republic whose visits were limited to Punta Cana (La Altagracia Province) and San Francisco de Macoris (Duarte Province). During the same period at least 2 more cases have been reported in European travelers who visited Punta Cana. CDC has recommended malaria prophylaxis for travelers to rural areas in the Dominican Republic but not for travel to resorts. In light of these reports, as a precautionary measure, CDC is expanding the recommendations to include chloroquine prophylaxis for travelers to all areas in La Altagracia Province, including the Punta Cana area, and also to all areas of Duarte Province. The Ministry of Health in the Dominican Republic has implemented malaria control measures, including intensified surveillance, prompt case management, and intensive mosquito control activities. CDC will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates on these recommendations.
Yemen Frees 113 Al Qaeda Members
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1288425/posts
SAN`A, Yemen Yemeni authorities have released 113 militants belonging to the Al Qaeda network including at least five once accused of involvement in the deadly bombing of the USS Cole after they recanted their extremist views, security officials said Thursday.
The militants once accused in the USS Cole bombing were later cleared. The 15 Yemeni militants convicted in August of involvement in the 2000 bombing, which killed 17 U.S. sailors, were not released.
The 113 men were released during the past two weeks after signing pledges not to carry out terror acts or criminal activities.

In the old days, the indignities of air travel involved intrusive elbows from seatmates and toddlers kicking your seatback.
In the last few years, they included removing your shoes to get through security and having your nail clippers confiscated.
And now this: full-body pat-downs - including bra checks - for people who set off metal detectors or are unlucky enough to be randomly selected.
