The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now

"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

Three Killed in Houston Private-Jet Crash
Monday, November 22, 2004

HOUSTON — A private jet crashed Monday clipped a light pole and crashed as it approached Hobby Airport in thick fog, killing all three people aboard.

"We have accounted for three fatalities. We're confident that's all we're going to find," said Jack Williams, a district chief with the Houston Fire Department.

The Gulfstream G-1159A (search) jet went down about 6:15 a.m. in an undeveloped area 1½ miles south of the airport, Federal Aviation Administration (search) spokesman Roland Herwig said.

The jet was approaching the runway when it clipped the light pole, losing part of a wing, authorities said.

Herwig said the flight originated from Dallas Love Field (search). The plane's registered owner is Jet Place Inc. of Tulsa, Okla., he said.

The identities of the three victims were not immediately known.

Flight operations at Hobby were not affected by the crash, Herwig said. A portion of the heavily traveled Beltway 8 tollway near the crash site was closed.

Part of the jet's wing was near the base of one of the light poles, and the wreckage extended about 100 yards from there, Williams said.

There was no rain but dense fog blanketed most of the area, officials said.

Exactly. It is always interesting to see their postings when it is clear that they are relying on our own media reports and government musings!

From your experience, are there sites that chatter generally reflects our assessments vs sites that appear to cite potential terror sources. My point being that the ones that echo "our" (in a generic term) evaluations may reflect those who are very shallow in the jihad wereas other postings may reflect a deeper 'connection'.

More than a dozen people mysteriously fall ill in Dutch train station...

Officers ill following station evacuation

22 November 2004 AMSTERDAM — Eight officers reportedly became ill after helping to evacuate Arnhem station after fears dangerous chemicals had leaked from a goods train.

The alarm was raised on Monday after a train passenger began feeling unwell. An initial investigation failed to find any leak in the compartments of the goods train, news agency ANP reported.

Tigger's byline:

Why is the 18 year old Iraqi without a military uniform who is fighting his enemy different from the 18 year old American or Brit in uniform, who is fighting his enemy? Why is one the terrorist and the other a hero?

The answer is that under international law a soldier must wear a uniform that carries a designation of his/her nationality. That clearly distinguishes a soldier from a civilian. A soldier must abide by rules of engagement. The Islamic terrorists don't wear uniforms. They don't distinguish themselves from civilians, yet they use weaponry to attack soldiers and civilians. Terrorists don't abide by any rules. As such, terrorists do not deserve the lawful considerations afforded to uniformed soldiers operating under internationally specified rules of engagement. Pretending to be wounded, pretending to surrender, then firing on troops who have accepted overtures of surrender is the act of a terrorist. We must assume that non-uniformed combatants will behave as dishonorable terrorist scum. Their behavioral history supports that position. Terrorists choose not to surrender honorably, so their career is terminated with prejudice.

Search for million missing Iraqis to take decades: Iraqi minister
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1286012/posts

SARAJEVO (AFP) - The search for more than a million Iraqis who went missing under the regime of Saddam Hussein may take more than 30 years due to the lack of local expertise and poor security, Iraqi Human Rights Minister Bakhtiar Amin said.

"It will take more than 30 years ... to find more than one million missing," Amin said Monday, adding that the main problem was the lack of experts and technical support to identify bodies.

"So far we have found 283 mass grave sites, and if the security situation allows we will find more of them," Amin said, adding that Iraq counts only 20 forensic pathologists.

Iraq also lacks storage facilities for human remains, with a current capacity of fewer than 80 bodies.
