Iran's air force ready to defend nuclear sites: army chief
http://www.spacewar.com/2004/041222122249.na6rh842.html
The Iranian military led by the air force has been ordered to stand ready to defend the country's nuclear sites in case of attack, army chief General Mohammad Salimi said Wednesday.
"The air force has been ordered to protect the nuclear sites, using all its power," Salimi said, quoted by the government daily Iran.
"The air force has temporarily suspended all its maneuvers and focused its means on patroling the sky," he added.
"All our forces including land forces, anti-aircraft, radar tactics ... are protecting the nuclear sites and an attack on them will not be simple," the general said.
American newspapers and the regional press have speculated over a possible US or Israeli attack on the nuclear sites of Iran, which the Jewish state and Washington suspect of working to develop the bomb.
US and Israeli officials have denied any such plans.
"US Accuses Israel of Spying; Second Charge in 4 Months"
And we demanded the resignation of the big cheese at the defense ministry...sounds like they certainly were caught with their hands on some very hot cookies.
I agree with thanks for the Noel song/poem and the opportunity to honor the birth of Christ in this forum.
Last year people seemed to try to be politically correct with greetings of "Happy Holidays" so as not to offend. This year the PC attitude feels like it is being shoved down our throats in so many venues. In my own way I have made every effort to say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy Hanukkah" where appropriate instead of this generic nonsense. Enough is enough!
It would be interesting to know whether the homicide bomber had the opportunity to request the dining hall assignment or was simply assigned there.
Thanks. I was checking the Phila. news stations today...and no mention at all. I should have written down the name of the man when I heard it this morning. Just another story that "disappeared".
How large is Iran's air force?
Thanks for the link. I will check it out.
"...under the skin of an elephant."
Double Creepy!
See my post from last night -- #3981. Is this the incident you were referring to?
That whole drama seemed unreal to me. The 2 Israelis were driving a moving van from FL to somewhere in WV and got "lost" on a curvy 2 lane highway in eastern TN. Unicoi County, to be exact, which happens to be near the Nuclear Fuel Services Plant in Erwin (the only supplier of nuclear fuel for the Navy). They were traveling at a high rate of speed and when a small town sheriff tried to pull them over, they threw "an unknown substance" in a bottle from the window. They had a business card or flyer from a FL flight school in the van.
Turns out, one of the guys was the son of the Likud Party spokesman, and was himself the former spokesman for the National Union of Israeli Students which represents the country's 150,000 university students.
The case was taken out of the local sheriff's hands when the FBI was called in. It was eventually turned over to INS who deported them. Seems they showed fake identification even though they were in the country legally (?).

I never did like the smell of this one.
"The first of these cosmic ray blasts occurred nearly 5 years ago and have been increasing in their frequency and intensity since the end of November... it remains an undisputed fact that this world of ours is facing a type of global cataclysmic event buried in our common geological past"
Brings to mind that prophecy of St Malachi (13th C I think) about the Popes...JPII was given the words "under the laboring sun" (though it was in latin) and there have been many solar flares.
Astronomers Baffled by Jodrell Sabotage Bid
A MULTI-MILLION pound project at Jodrell Bank has been hit by a series of strange, unexplained sabotage attacks.
Astronomers at the observatory are baffled and say the incidents could harm a global effort by specialists from the University of Manchester to scan the heavens and unlock the secrets of the universe.
Police are investigating six separate incidents where telephone lines linking the telescope with the control centre have been deliberately cut.
Experts say the saboteur must have detailed knowledge of a project called Merlin which is being operated at the observatory.
But it is not clear if the attacker is a modern-day Luddite opposed to scientific progress, someone with a grudge against the astronomers or an educated vandal.
Conspiracy theorists could look towards an extra-terrestrial force hoping to keep us in the dark about life elsewhere in the cosmos.
Dr Tony Battilana, the chief engineer at Jodrell Bank, said: We don't know if the culprit has a grudge against us or whether it is simply vandalism. "The police have asked if there is anybody with a grudge against us but we don't believe there is.
"The attacks have been on buried junction boxes and equipment above ground as well. It would not be obvious to anyone without specialised knowledge that we use the lines in question."
He said that every time the lines have been cut, work has had to be suspended on the Merlin project for an entire day. "The effect is to delay our programme of observations," Dr Battilana added.
"If one telescope goes down, the whole network is effectively stopped. It is very annoying and we hope the police catch whoever is doing this very soon."
Merlin is the name of a project that links a series of telescopes around the country to form a single giant telescope that is effectively 135.6 miles wide. The project gives astronomers at Jodrell Bank a facility that is more powerful than the Hubble Space Telescope.
Police confirmed the incidents are being investigated.
Thanks for refreshing my memory of the Urban Moving Co.'s exploits. It's a hard chess game to follow isn't it? These incidents are real though...not propaganda.
Yes, that was the incident I referred to but the Urban Moving Co. hijinks are eyepopping too.

It's an ongoing thread on Mosul.
The forum itself is also interesting and very active. On a banner they refer to it as being both a school and a chicken roost.
THANK YOU penguino.
Yep.
I agree.
I agree.
