The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Connect these dots, now
Full Story
"We should have secured the Mexican border."

That could be the pitiful lament we hear from negligent U.S. officials if Al Qaeda pulls off an attack on the United States using weapons of mass destruction smuggled across our southern frontier.

Were that horrendous event to happen, leaders in the administration and Congress would be justly hit with the same question that was perhaps unjustly cast at them and their predecessors after the unprecedented Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks: Why didn't they connect the dots?

Hi JP! Good to see you here. There was talk last week about the correlation between the word SEA and the Seattle Airport. Having lived in the Pacific Northwest for several years, I note the decommissioned Trojan Nuclear Plant is downwind of Seattle. Other nuclear plants are located as shown on this map:

Thanks for the articles MamaD.

Tagging on to your "Key al-Qaeda members..." story. Wonder if these are related.

Taliban leaders arrested

KHOST, Dec 19: Two Taliban commanders were arrested along with two militants late Saturday in south-east Afghanistan by security forces who also seized a weapons cache, a local official told AFP on Sunday.

Mullah Noor Mohammed and Mullah Mullai Goloom had been in charge of planning attacks in the Paktia as well as the other south-eastern provinces. Security forces also seized seven missiles, remote-controlled bombs, explosive equipment, a satellite phone and some documents and maps during the raid.

I'm jealous of all those with snow :-)
We have no snow here which is extrememly unusual for mid-December. I even did a snow dance yesterday.

Good article. And it points out yet another question that begs an answer:

"Terrorism expert Peter Bergen said the 10-day period between the Jeddah attack and the release of the tape is the fastest turnaround that he can recall between a news event and a communication from bin Laden. "It indicates to me a certain degree of security. After all, the chain of custody of these tapes is the one way to find bin Laden. He obviously feels secure enough that he can release a number of these tapes. The last message from the al-Qaeda leader came in a videotape appearing October 29 on the Arab-language television network al-Jazeera. His top deputy, Ayman al-Zawahiri, spoke in an audio-tape that aired November 29 on al-Jazeera." Bergen said by his count bin Laden and al-Zawahiri have released 29 messages since the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. "It's extraordinary that the chain of custody of these tapes has not been traced back," Bergen said. "After all, they're releasing these tapes very frequently, on average once every six weeks, yet it seems that American intelligence agencies or other intelligence agencies are not capable of tracing back the source of these tapes."
