Over this period AQs number two honcho has another video released. His releases are closely linked to terror attacks in the world. Let me know if you want on or off the Ping list.
12/02/04 Current National Homeland Defense threat level is YELLOW
1. Attack threat windows
12/02/04 Primary Window: October 29 - December 28, 2004. High concern over possible attack by al-Qaeda within 60 days of 29 Oct. OBL video. This is based upon an historical analysis of previous videos. Concern is also raised with the release of the latest Zawahiri video tape.
Another potential attack window is the Nov 24 - Jan 1 - Thanksgiving / Christmas Holiday season.
12/02/04 Secondary windows: No significant changes
January 20, 2005 - Presidential inauguration
Feb. 6 Super Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla.
2. Attack Indicators
11/29/04 Al-Zawahiri has the highest correlation of messages to attacks of all terrorist threats and postings. In this potential holiday window this should really poke our antenna up. Godzilla
Top Usama bin Laden lieutenant Ayman Al-Zawahiri vowed in a videotape shown Monday on Al-Jazeera television to continue fighting the United States until President Bush changes U.S. policies.
Al-Zawahiri, bin Laden's righthand man, referred to the recent U.S. presidential election on the tape, but it wasn't clear whether the video was recorded before or after the Nov. 2 vote, when Bush was re-elected.
"The results of the elections do not matter for us. What matters is how the United States deals with Muslims," al-Zawahiri said in the tape.
"We advise America, you can deal with Muslims in one of the following ways," al-Zawahiri said. "Respect them completely and give them their own rights or consider them as easy trophies. If you do the later we will fight you until the death."

Threats of a nuclear attack continue to appear on some jihadi forums. I continue to monitor the ACSA "alert" regarding the prediction of a nuclear attack within the next 3 months. The credibility of this chatter and alerts is questionable, however, AQ has repeatedly stated it desires nuclear weapons, and there are concerns being raised again about nuclear material becoming available through either N. Korea, Iran or Pakistan.
3. Current Terrorist Operations
Al-Qa'ida
11/29/04 An al-Qaida attack on the US with non-conventional weapons is virtually "inevitable," and the organization is likely "tying up the knots" for such an attack, Yossef Bodansky, former director of the US Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday.
"All of the warnings we have today indicate that a major strike something more horrible than anything we've seen before is all but inevitable," he said.

Iraq
12/02/04 Counter terrorism ops continue. US is increasing its forces in preparations of the Jan 2005 Iraqi elections. Some on-sites report as much as a four fold decrease in IED attacks following the Fallujah attack. However the road from Bagdads airport to the city is still very dangerous.
11/29/04 On Sunday, a statement posted on an Islamist Web site in the name of al-Qaida in Iraq, led by Jordanian terror mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, claimed responsibility for killing 17 members of Iraq's security forces and a Kurdish militiaman in Mosul, where insurgents rose up this month in support of guerrillas facing a U.S.-led assault in Fallujah.
Although the claims were not verifiable, they raised fears that al-Zarqawi's organization had spread to Mosul, Iraq's third-largest city, 225 miles north of Baghdad. At least 43 suspected insurgents have been arrested as part of an ongoing operation to re-establish control of Mosul, a military statement said.
Al-Zarqawi and the city's two major Iraqi insurgent leaders, Sheik Abdullah al-Janabi and Omar Hadid, apparently escaped the onslaught and remain at large. Before the assault, U.S. intelligence officers speculated that al-Zarqawi would try to relocate to Mosul if he lost his base in Fallujah.
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/articles/2004/11/29/93046.shtml
Mosul has a high Sunni population that appears to be sympathic to al-Zarqawi, however it is in the heart of Kurdish country. So while al-Zarqawi may be able to hide, if the US turns the Kurdish defense forces loose, al-Zarqawi should have even fewer supplies and men coming in than before, choking things up. Godzilla
Iran
11/30/04 Iran is playing a dangerous game as far as the US and Israel are concerned. By the way they have vacillated back and forth with EU and IAEA negotiators, theyve bought time and a watered down resolution. They run the risk of a US or Israeli attack to damage/cripple their nuclear program. Godzilla
Iran has reiterated it is only prepared to freeze its uranium enrichment activities for a few months and will not, as the EU and Washington want, permanently mothball facilities that could make atomic bombs.

11/29/04 Iran is signing up individuals for suicide attacks against US troops in Iraq, train for suicide attacks against Israelis, or train to assassinate British author Salman Rushdie. There appears to be at least tacit support from some within Iran's government.

N. Korea
12/02/04Intrigue continues to surround the events in this country. However, news sources have been very quiet regarding the interesting events that have recently transpired and whether or not Kim is still in power. - Godzilla 11/29/04 Perhaps it was nothing more than wishful thinking by his many enemies, but the wildest rumor to sweep through Asian financial markets last week was that Kim Jong Il, North Korea's despotic leader, was shot in the head by his brother-in-law's son during a palace coup. Quickly dismissed as pure fantasy, the rumor of Kim's demise was merely the most extreme example of recent speculation regarding the fate of Kim's Stalinist regime.
South Korean newspapers last week reported that 10,000 Chinese troops were digging in along the North Korean border, possibly to repel a wave of refugees expected to flee the North should there be political upheaval. In other reports from the South Korean and international press, North Korean generals were said to be defecting in droves; ubiquitous propaganda portraits of Kim were mysteriously disappearing from Pyongyang's public places; and fewer North Koreans traveling abroad were wearing lapel pins depicting Kim's visage. In an interview with Fuji Television, influential Japanese lawmaker Shinzo Abe underscored a general sense of foreboding when he urged his nation to dust off contingency plans for a destabilized North Korea. "I think we should consider the possibility that regime change could occur," he said.
North Korea's isolation certainly makes it seem as if anything is possiblethe country remains a black box to the outside world. But informed Western diplomats and North Korean refugees who maintain contacts with relatives back home say it does not seem as if Kim's collapse is imminent. Pyongyang's closest ally, China, appears unworried.
http://www.time.com/time/asia/magazine/article/0,13673,501041206-832307,00.html
11/29/04 The North Korean dictator remains isolated and obsessive, by all accounts, but he may be more concerned nowadays about gathering international pressure, led by a hawkish U.S. government, than an uprising by his mistreated people. For one thing, the incoming U.S. secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, is apt to take a sharper line with Pyongyang than her predecessor. Kim may be sensing that. In one account related to NEWSWEEK, a recent visitor to Pyongyang got a candid take from the North Korean leader himself. Kim confessed that the North could not give up its nuclear weapons because his conventional weapons were hopelessly outmoded and ineffectiveleaving him at the mercy of the U.S. military.
For Kim, the next few months could be critical. Domestically, he must deal with the short-term fallout from the limited economic reforms he introduced two years ago. A recent report by the World Food Program states that they've caused even more problems for North Korea's people. By cutting state subsidies and freeing prices, Kim has sent inflation through the roofmaking basic foodstuffs catastrophically expensive. Says one recent North Korean defector: "One third of the population can eat rice and meat soup. One third can manage to eat corn. And one third is waiting to die with water-thin porridge."
But giving in on negotiations could spell trouble for Kim, too. He'll have to deal with Americans and Japanese who are being less understanding of Pyongyang's demands than ever before. "I think Kim doesn't know which way to move now," says Lee Young Hwa, a North Korea analyst at Japan's Kansai University. "His options are getting narrow."
Things are dire for Kim on other fronts. The re-election of George W. Bush is surely the last thing he wanted. The U.S. Congress recently passed the North Korea Human Rights Act, which, among other things, offers support to defectors and allocates funds for mass drops of portable radios on the Northan attempt to break through the information blockade. In addition, trade between the two Koreas is still minimal, and Seoul's capacity to offer aid is being curtailed by the South's own sluggish economy. The conservative South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo recently cited intelligence sources who confirm that an erstwhile pretender to the throne, Kim Jong Il's brother-in-law Jang Song Taek, was "purged" from the senior leadership earlier this year along with a coterie of high-ranking generals. That may sound surprising. But given the parlous state of the North's economy, the Great Leader Kim may be running out ways to keep his house of cards from falling.

11/28/04 Iranian sources said the country has discovered Saudi Arabia has access to nuclear weapons and technology, the Middle East Newsline reported Sunday.
The sources said Saudi Arabia and Pakistan signed an agreement in 2003 that stated Pakistan would assist the Arab kingdom in the deployment of nuclear weapons and missile delivery systems.

I just had a conversation with a Ham Radio operator in the Netherlands. At his request, I will not identify him here.
He states that the situation there is very tense, with anti-muslim sentiment and violence rising daily.
According to this gentleman, very little of what is actually hapening is making it out into the International News Media.
He reports that Dutch Lawmakers are being heavily pressured by the citizenry to halt further Muslim immigration entirely, to deport non-citizen Muslims, and the jailing of anyone encouraging Islamic radicalism. Mass demonstrations are being formed, and he is personally concerned that rioting will break out if the government does not act swiftly

11/29/04 Spain has arrested Samir Ben Abdellah, a 36-year-old Moroccan who once worked as an imam in a Madrid suburb, was arrested near Barcelona yesterday on the orders of anti-terror judge Baltasar Garzon as part of an ongoing investigation into radical Islamic groups. Ben Abdellah, is thought to have links to Mohamed Achraf, the suspected ringleader of a plot to blow up Spain's supreme court in the capital and believed to be behind a radical group dubbed "martyrs for Morocco". Spain is seeking the extradition of Achraf from Switzerland, where he is in custody.

11/28/04 The FBI has established the clearest link yet between the March 11 Madrid train bombings and the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States. The FBI has told Spanish investigators that one of three men believed to have planned the Sept. 11 attacks from Spain in the summer of 2001 also gave the order to carry out the Madrid blasts, the newspaper ABC reported.
Hijacker Mohammed Atta, believed to have piloted one of the airliners that crashed into New York's World Trade Center, visited Spain two months before the attacks and met two men. One was Ramzi bin al-Shaibah, who is being held by U.S. authorities, while the other was unidentified.

4. Attack method.
12/02/04 No real change in the preferred method of choice of AQ which are bombs - the bigger the better. With the exception of 9/11, car/truck bombs have been widely used. There are special concerns regarding the use by terrorists of the following types of vehicles:
1. Uhaul type cargo trucks.
2. Gasoline / Propane supply / tanker trucks.
3. Emergency vehicles (ambulances, police cars, fire trucks)
Current alerts out for two stolen fuel/tanker trucks, a stolen crop duster and about a hundred propane tanks. It is uncertain if the thefts are linked to terrorism at this time, however they could be adapted for use in a terrorist attack.

Kenya
November 29, 2004
This Travel Warning is being issued to remind American citizens of ongoing safety and security concerns in Kenya. This supersedes the Travel Warning of May 21, 2004.
Due to ongoing security concerns, the Department urges Americans to consider carefully the risks of travel to Kenya at this time. The Department recommends that private American citizens in Kenya evaluate their personal security situation in light of the current terrorist threat. The U.S. Government continues to receive indications of terrorist threats in the region aimed at American and Western interests. Terrorism poses a continuing threat in Kenya and throughout East Africa. Terrorist actions may include suicide operations, bombings, kidnappings, or attacks on civil aviation. U.S. citizens should be aware of the risk of indiscriminate attacks on civilian targets in public places including tourist sites and locations where westerners are known to congregate, as well as commercial operations associated with U.S. or other Western interests.

10. Suspicious Domestic Incidents Not Currently Linked to Specific Terrorism Attempts
11/30/04 Officials are investigating the theft of about 30 propane tanks from a local hardware store. The propane tanks were stolen at about 10 p.m. Monday and were stored outside in locked cages. A witness called the store as the theft occurred and the manager on duty then called police, but the suspects left the scene before police arrived. The witness said he saw a large white Ryder truck and two sets of feet between the store and cages. Police have notified the FBI about the theft. Because so many tanks were taken, officials from the Department of Homeland Security are investigating the incident.
http://www.nbc4i.com/news/3958194/detail.html
12/02/04 LEOs are still looking for stole tankers and a crop duster that could potentially be used for terrorist attacks. There have been additional large cargo trucks stolen along with additional propane tanks. News report indicate that nearly everyone of these incidents have also been reported to the FBI and DHS. Im not sure if the apparent spike in these thefts is a function of increased sensitivity to such activity, hence an apparent increase in activity or a the worst case that they are being stolen to be coverted into bombs- Godzilla
