I came across a mention of that earlier today, the base (Sewart AFB) did close years ago, and the land seems to have been portioned out to several different entities, including I think the Nashville airport, if I'm getting it straight.
I guess I just don't understand how we could have played into this with the Canal. What were we thinking?

"An Open Letter from a Saudi Islamist to Those who Shirk Jihad"
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "The Islamist website www.islahi.net recently posted an open letter from a Saudi sheikh urging all Muslims to join Jihad, and emphasizing the obligation to fight the Saudi rulers, who, he claims, are at the service of the infidels. The letter is signed by "Abu 'Abd Al-Rahman Al-Athari Sultan Ibn Bijad, of the occupied land of the two sacred mosques." The following are excerpts: [1]"
Thank you!
Oak Ridge is what was trying to come to make it's way to the tip of the tongue...
I know the feeling...
Be sure to read liberallyconservative's post at 1329, on the pilot.
>>Saline spray could stop spread of flu, SARS, TB<<
That's amazing!
>>The word "smyrna" means myrrh an anointing oil and spice used to prepare the dead for burial.<<
The things we learn on TM. I'll be darned.
>>There is a Aviation Army National guard base in Smyrna.<<
Getting even more interesting...
Now, *that* is an interesting factoid.
>>>Do you know who it was that posted earlier about this guy having visited several small airports?<<<
That was from this article:
"Authorities said the pilot had been flying around several small airports in the Middle Tennessee area for the past few days."

That base is right outside of Nashville. Oak Ridge is right outside of Knoxville. I am in between both but closer to Knoxville. 2 1/2 hours from Nashville and 1 hour from Knoxville with a lead foot.
I never knew that cell phones could get a virus!
>>Nothing to see here -- REALLY -- except what looked like a drunken and/or mentally-disturbed, middle-aged, balding white guy.<<
Did they show his pic?
I guess you can. I read about this problem a couple months ago.
And here we have some mentally deranged guy flitting around from airport to airport. Sheesh.
"His home county says he's a very strange puppy," Hampton said. "They've had a lot of problems with him."

"Two Freight Trains Collide in Florida; One Person Killed, Three Injured"
AP ^ | Nov 29, 2004
Posted on 11/29/2004 5:48:45 PM PST by Tumbleweed_Connection
ARTICLE SNIPPET: "Two CSX freight trains collided head-on Monday, killing one crew member and injuring three others, authorities said.
Four locomotives derailed along with about 15 cars, including two tank cars carrying what a railroad spokeswoman said was a non-hazardous nitrogen fertilizer. About 30,000 gallons of the solution leaked into a nearby ditch."
re: Saudi Arabia Has Nukes
The UPI story is incorrect. The mentioned agreement was a 'mutual defense pact' under which PAK agreed to extend a 'nuclear umbrella' over Saudi Arabia in the aftermath of the US pullout. The Saudis were/are terrified that the Ayatollahs might try to bring down the HOS in a more direct manner than simply funding al-Qa'ida.

You all hold down the fort. Night all.
Thank you for that link! There's the fact that made this story jump out at me -- his visits to other airports around here.
Yes, our local news showed film footage of the guy. He didn't look quite right -- kinda loopy or something.
