VANITY
Well today it looks like the GOP will back SPECTER for Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter is to publicly announce (see related threads on FR) that he will not block a nomination based ona proposed Judge's stanc on abortion. No mention of Specter backing strict Constitutional Constructionists, not activists. IMHO, Specter will find another reason to Bork a proposed judge.
Tom DeLay was given a pass by the GOP, today. (Check the news for specifics)
The GOP is also in the process of knocking out the requirement to label foreign grown fruits, etc., as to country of origin. It is believed Americans will favor home grown fruits and vegies. Therefor, the GOP is screwing the American Public and American Farmers.
In view of the GOP actions, we need to document the GOP actions. We need to wake them up and to do what is right and in accord with the American values on which they rode to victory. (NO I do not like the DEMS; I will quit this when the GOP wakes up)
Let me take a run at that one. Ronnie Earl the DA of Travis County, and a Democrat, has jurisdiction over all statewide officials and congressmen in Texas. He has for years sought to indict Republicans on trumped up charges, including Senator Hutchison, where when he got her to court he declined to prosecute.
He is after DeLay and we don't need to lose Tom's leadership because of a CROOKED DEMOCRAT in Austin, Texas.
We must push the conservative agenda or we'll end up with a GOP that resembles the Canadian Conservative Party.
Why change the rules for him? Because a rogue Democrat prosecutor in Texas is trying to bring a false case against Delay specifically in order to trigger this rule.
Rules that make you vulnerable to your enemies need to be reconsidered.
As for Specter, it's not a done deal yet. Let's hope it's never a done deal, because it could cause big trouble for Bush, and that would be a pity with everything else going so well.
I yield to no one when it comes to strict standards of conduct and accountability, regardless of party, but automatic bouncing over an indictment, which is a mere charge, when circumstances might suggest a partisan witch-hunt (and Texas seems to have had a history of that kind of thing; one perfervid prosecutor nutter in Austin went after Kay Baily Hutchinson), where it is reasonable to assume there will be no conviction, strikes me as blunderbuss approach. Something more tailored to the specific facts seems more appropriate. Perhaps a secret ballot of the party membership about what to do might be the ticket. Of course, if there is a conviction, then the guy should be bounced.
Gutless, spineless, can't stand the heat of leadership.
This more than just about one rule change. This is about the ongoing campaign by the Democratic left to destroy anyone who disagrees with their twisted, socialist view of the world.
Look at the year of vicious slurs against President Bush we have just witnessed.
- DeLay needs to be protected from a run-a-muck democRAT;
The Specter deal is not as bleak as it may seem. BUT THAT REMAINS TO BE SEEN, he is a RINO! Personally, I want a judge to have a traditionalist, strict constitutional interpretation of matters and not be an activist other than to correct prior abominations (well perhaps pack the 9th Circus)
The fruit and vegetable aisle still needs labeling!
A sense that there is a need to return to fiscal responsibility is also coming up. Reagan promised and delivered an "honest dollar." Lookimg at the EURO, we have a big problem here. Any ideas on what is being done?
Very true. What Snow explained sounded as if it made sense and he does know how Washington works.
We have to keep our voices heard and hope for the best.
1) I am in favor of removing labels. If people want to know where their fruit comes from, ASK YOUR STORE CLERKS. It served us well for a few hundred years. Americans by large don't give a damn where their fruit and veggies come from so long as they are safe and cheap. I know this from experience.
2) If Delay wasn't the target of an out of control political vendetta, I might side with you. As he is, I endorse the decision of the House.
3) The issue of Spectre and his influence on passing G.W's judges through remains undecided.
Because he WILL be indicted by a leftist rat prosecutor that has a history of politically motivated indictments.
An indictment means nothing. A DA can indict a ham sandwich.
Personally, I would like to see the GOP run Congress like a business, but an HONEST business. We have had too much politics in the past to not know we may be getting "Slick Willied".
I do feel bad that it might give hope to the Dems who are like chameleons. They change their color to match the surroundings, but are still the same animal (No PETA attacks please).
Thank YOU Sir, for pointing out the obvious corruption of Ronnie Earle, who should be indicted himself for abuse of the prosecutorial authority residing in his office.
And screw this 'all or nothing' attitude I keep hearing from Republicans. That is EXACTLY the mindset that led to the DemocRATs becoming the minority party of special interests, of the abortionists, of the protected minorities, of the environmental wackos, blah-blah-blah, etc., etc.
No, I'm not a big fan of Snarlin' Arlen, but as has already been pointed out, his fellow GOP Senators now have him by the short hairs, and you can bet the rent that he's been put on notice that he better tow the damn line when it comes to getting the President's nominees through committee and down to the Senate floor for an up or down vote.
Remember this: Specter has an ego. That ego does NOT want to see his final term in office end up as a partisan disaster in which his own party turns on him, or even (in the extreme), expels him. He wants to go down in the history books as the most fair minded and thoughtful chairman in the history of the SJC. (whether he does or not, will be up to the historians)
Conservatives have won the battle already regarding Specter. Yes, I have my doubts about him but that is why we will employ the time honored method of Ronald Reagan in that we will 'trust, but verify'. Specter will be under the microscope for the remainder of his years in office and if he deviates in the slightest, he is going to catch pure, living conservative GOP Hellfire.
The Republican Party is becoming more conservative even as we watch the news each day. How else to explain the departure of Colin Powell (yes, yes, he was going to stay only for one term, we've been told) and his replacement, Condi Rice? SHE is going to kick diplomatic ass from one corner of this Earth to the other, and she will be solidly in the President's corner without equivocation. AND, I'll bet that Condi is going to clean out the anti-U.S. rabble and rubbish within the State Department bureaucracy too.
Yes, I know all about the SES and how bureaucrats are 'protected', but they're not protected from being assigned to our new embassy in Antarctica, now are they?
And Porter Goss is going to clean out the CIA of that nest of vipers that were doing everything possible to blindside the President on Iraq and every other foreign policy/intelligence issue, and hopefully - there will not only be resignations and firings, but a few indictments and prison terms for leaking intelligence data to the media before this is all over.
As Rush Limbaugh might say 'my friends, we are in good hands'...so keep your powder dry, sez I.
So why change the ethics rule then?
You forgot to add the psychiatric assessment and treatment of EVERY child in the nation.
I am sickened at the thought of this intrusion into the parent child relationship. My children are mine and I will fight this with my last breath. I will decide if they need a doctor and I will choose the doctor and I will follow through with treatment that my chosen doctor and I determine to be best for MY children. Government-----MYOB!
Conservatives and the GOP (I hope)believe that Conservative Judges, strict Constitutionalists are a corner stone of America. This maxim is a plank and is nailed down, it is not a special interest group but a fundamental building block. Without that block, the country is doomed and political correctness rules, and changes daily.
Accordingly, I do not want Specter to make one (or more) Borked up decisions before he is removed. Yes, I am against abortion, but the underlying Constitutional matter governs. The two are synonymous, but separate.
Please explain the the GOP involvement. I heard something about that, but my kids are grown, and glossed over that item thinking it was another Dem whacko proposal. My eyes glaze over when I hear that type of nut stuff and do not pay much attention. I am glad people like you are awake to catch the stupidity.
All products are required to be labeled as to country of origin. Let the foreign shippers pay for the labeling and give the American farmers an economic chance. HEY LOOK AT THE RED AREAS.
Too much "we must compromise" on this and that without a battle is just what Chamberlain did! Short change the electorate who are Conservative, Traditional Americans, mostly in non-city areas and the GOP will slip back to a blocked balance of power. People want government with honesty and integrity, not a political party.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You come into the world with -0- and leave the same way. In between, life is a gamble, so take a chance!
THIS might be interesting.
