Washington State Governor's Race--Certification (Live Thread)(Rossi (R) wins by 261 votes!)
Washington State Secretary of State ^ | 11/17/2004 | The Conservator

Posted on 11/17/2004 4:44:42 PM PST by TheConservator

This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).

The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.

Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.

If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

Wisconsin sure isn't - I wanted to watch that race and you have to go into each county individually (they do have the links on the SOS site).

I'm almost starting to think of the counties as states, and the votes as electoral votes. It's hard to realize we are talking about individual votes at this point in the game, after millions have been counted.

Reconstructing is for ballots that have been damaged and can't be read by the machine. They create a duplicate ballot so the machine can read it.

Enhancing is for ballots that have overvotes on them and are kicked out by the machine. If they followed the directions and handled the overvotes correctly, the elections people fix it so the machine can read it. Very laborious process.

As I have already stated, Rossi should win by a nose (I think no more than 40 votes). For this reason we have to go to Court, for the law be applied equally all over the State of WA.

I'm sticking with my 371 for Rossi. Of course, I'm assuming that GH is a wash. Has been thus far.

Actually, a lot of the damaged ballots are military ballots. Others had rips or tears in them.

I think it's the Brain Injury Association of Washington... Oh, no wait - that's the liberal BIAW. The BIAW is actually the Building Industry Association of Washington, IIRC - a Group that is NOT happy with the 'rats...

Actually if he does win, Thinking that if within 150 votes, the recount is by hand only as opposed to if within 1200 votes electronic recounting can be used. I worryin big time about the Rats "Finding" more votes. Worrying big time. We are due here for &@*!!!
