This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).
The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.
Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.
If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

I love the sound of conceeding Democrats. Sounds like victory. What is best in life? To crush your enemies, see them driven before you... and to hear the lamentations of KOMO.

I have a DUmmie in the cube diagonal from mine at work. (He doesn't know I'm a FReeper.) I'll hear the whining tomrrow, I'm sure. A real live DUmmie? Wow, you have your very own. Do you take it for walks, get it to fetch you things. It would be great to have a DUmmie, except for having to clean it.

From the Washington Secretary of State's Q and A page:
Q: What are the requirements for a machine versus hand recount?
A machine recount will occur if the election results for the top two candidates are separated by more than 150 votes and less than 2,000 votes.
A manual recount will occur if the difference between the top two candidates is less than one-quarter of one percent and the two are separated by 150 votes or fewer.
State law authorizes the top two candidates to negotiate an alternative to a manual recount procedure if the race is separated by 150 votes or fewer.
I think they have to do the machine recount first. Then, they will have to pay to have second recount if they do not like the free one. In this case I heard $750,000--am I wrong? There will be no hand counts if the margin is over 150 votes.

My DUmmie is a 34-year man at work, so I have to give him proper deference. I'm probably one of the few people at work who knows what the DU site looks like -- which is how I caught him doing his DU thing.
He doesn't know that the Great and Dreaded Publius, slayer of Seattle liberals, is right behind him. He has no idea how I react when he and his fellow libs gather in his cube and commiserate over the stupidity of 52% of America's voters. I hold my tongue, of course, but inside I'm gloating something terrible.

Greys Harbor was really strange. They double counted votes and my figures show they lost 2240 votes when they corrected the double counted votes. After the corrections, Greys Harbor swang from Rossi's favor to Gregoire's.

Not up on that. Lets pray for a non-partisan machine count.

Who has the "FREEPER" license plate over there? Gave 'em a thumbs up on the freeway last month.
That's our HolyScroller! :)

Strange? How? That the corrections were in favor of Gregoire or that the errors were in favor of Rossi? My bet is that the strangeness comes from the Dem side. Usually does.

I think it is less for a machine count. Something like $400,000. That indeed will take the demonrats out of the counting. State Republican Chairman Chris Vance has the state tightened down good from any Demonrat tricks. It shall be good.

After the latest infringement on property owners in King County, a suggestion was made that maybe it's time to break up King County. Is this feasible?

I don't care how much of our money goes to gettting a true count. If I thought 1 million bucks could bring a true count it is worth it. Thats one days lattes for Seattle.
