Washington State Governor's Race--Certification (Live Thread)(Rossi (R) wins by 261 votes!)
Washington State Secretary of State ^ | 11/17/2004 | The Conservator

Posted on 11/17/2004 4:44:42 PM PST by TheConservator

This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).

The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.

Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.

If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

I believe this triggers an automatic recount, difference of 2000 votes or less.

Praying.

Congratulations to you.

Let me know if Dino needs an education on enviro-racketeering. :-)

Unfortunately, I think you're right. The SOS was just on and said that there was only 1 other Gov race this close - 1912- 622 vote difference - but there were only 190,000 votes.

He said the recount won't take as long as the provisional and absentee ballot signatures, etc. have been verified. Now they just need to 'stack them up and count them'

You are correct. If this is over by Thanksgiving I will be thankful... or not. But unlike the tolerant crowd I don't plan to burn my turkey and mash my potatoes too much..

Oh geez, now Gregoire is giving a press conference and saying how vote totals can change and mentioned a couple of instances (including Grays Harbor). She's introducing her Transition Team Director (yuck).

Gregoire and the dems are fighting to stay out of prison. With a republican gov, attorney general, and sec of state, the repubs are gonna cleanup the corruption that led to this vote fraud.

How can you watch that stuff? Too much.

I think they should have a lib-off. The person who can get the most hipper slackers employed in a month WINS! And the unemployment office doesn't count.

And we're going to make sure EVERY SINGLE VOTE COUNTS....whether you're homebound, whether you're suffering from Parkinson's and your signature is different from what it used to be. Now she's going into a stump speech.

Here's the rest - almost verbatim:
When the recount concludes, I hope to return and make sure we address the issues of our state. I will support Senator Rossi, if that's the outcome.

We're going to focus on the transition and the recount and make sure they are both done 'just as they should be'.

Oh great - I couldn't take any more of Gregoire and switched to FNC and I get Hitlery (she feels so blessed to see so many supporter who traveled from all over. If Joe S's bad, I'm switching to HGN.

Just got in from a work meeting...I had checked the SOS site at about 4:30 and Rossi was still 19 down -- but it looked good. How dramatic! Benton County coming in last and winning it for us. I had a dear friend there in the past, Senator Max Benitz (who was Republican Party Chair in the 80's), who I worked for in the early 80's -- man, would he be proud now!

Congratulations to us in Washington!

Finally, we stopped the RAT MAFIA...close as it was, it was at least the beginning of turning the absolute iron-clad dominance of Seattle/King County. Maybe the rest of the state can take control -- the way red states have wrested control of the country from the corrupt urban areas of America.

It sounds WONDERFUL!!! Thanks - I was half-way listening as I was reading and posting - then, when I couldn't stomach G any more, I switched so missed that.

I'm thrilled, but cautiously optimistic (just because ya never know what the DemoRats are going to do).

It does indeed. :-)

"Governor Rossi" rolls off the tongue nicely.

I can't bring myself to pronounce "Governor Gregoire" without at least six shots of Wild Turkey.
