Washington State Governor's Race--Certification (Live Thread)(Rossi (R) wins by 261 votes!)
Washington State Secretary of State ^ | 11/17/2004 | The Conservator

Posted on 11/17/2004 4:44:42 PM PST by TheConservator

This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).

The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.

Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.

If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

What is the hand recount margin?

If there is a hand recount, Rossi loses.

The Republicans need to be the last to post so that the Dems don't know how many to manufacture. It's not a matter of showboating.

I remember one of those a long time ago - we were at my cousins, and, as luck would have it they're campers, so we finished the turkey on the grill, brought out the propane stove to keep other items warm, listened to the football game on the portable radio, and used lanterns and candles for light (actually, it was kinda fun - the most unique Thanksgiving I've spent anyway).

What we were looking for in Benton was a pickup of 286 votes based on the 750 number.

Rossi at 68 percent
Gregoire at 30 percent.

So now we're looking for radically lower vote totals and radically different percentages, which is exactly how it came down in Grays Harbor.

I believe it is 5. If Gregoire was ahead at 5, wonder if the Dems will say any votes after that won't count.
