Washington State Governor's Race--Certification (Live Thread)(Rossi (R) wins by 261 votes!)
Washington State Secretary of State ^ | 11/17/2004 | The Conservator

Posted on 11/17/2004 4:44:42 PM PST by TheConservator

This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).

The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.

Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.

If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

well. not too bad. a little different than my quick calc on the changes from yesterday on grays harbor site. but benton should net more than 13 for dino!!! hopefully more than 163 so he wins by over 150!!!

What I don't get is that GH had only 27,000 ballots total to count. What's the deal.

Benton had about 67,000. These counties really need some help!

That explains why the pickup for Gregoire was only 400 something when they had a little over 600 ballots approved by the judge. Apparently the Pubs were able to get around 200 in.

I thought there were over 900.

"Perfect Justice would be a Rossi win of 537 Votes after the recount LOL!"

That would be great tweak!

Hey - I report, you decide. I do agree with you, though - geez 750 votes and 1221 votes - do they only have 1 person counting?? Or, maybe they have a bunch of DemoRat lawyers questioning every ballot????

The votes won't count from provisional ballots fixed before the deadline today? (Except in King???)

Gregoire picked up 105 votes in Gray's -- A little over the 80 I expected. She now holds a 13 vote lead with Benton out.

If Benton holds % wise, Rossi should pick up approx 250 Votes, making the margin outside the HAND RECOUNT threshold of 150, meaning it will just be a Machine Recount.

No. They were hoping to announce it on John's show (which is over about 5:55). Sam kept refreshing his screen - but no new #s.
