Washington State Governor's Race--Certification (Live Thread)(Rossi (R) wins by 261 votes!)
Washington State Secretary of State ^ | 11/17/2004 | The Conservator

Posted on 11/17/2004 4:44:42 PM PST by TheConservator

This is a LIVE THREAD for discussion of the impending certification of final results in the Washington State Governor's race, between Dino Rossi (R) and Christine Gregoire (D).

The Secretary of State is required to certify the final results this evening. As of 4:28 P.M. PST, Gregoire leads by 29 votes with 2521 votes from 4 or 5 counties left to be reported. King County (the Dem's stronghold) has apparently made its final report.

Washington State law requires a machine recount if the certified results show a difference of less than 2000, which now seems almost certain. It also requires a manual recount if the difference is less than 150 votes. A machine recount is estimated to take a week, a hand recount a month or more.

If the final result were a tie, the winner would be decided by lot.

They also were doing it in King County, Scott, after a judge said it was legal for the rats to do it.

OK, then I was right. Someone was claiming that all the disputed provisionals that ended up being counted were for Gregoire. I doubted that, which is how this whole kerfuffle got started.

The SOS said they've called the counties several times and the counties said they were working on them and if the SOS's office would leave them alone, they could finish counting.

"If they were unregistered, they wouldn't have received a ballot in the first place so no, that isn't the case."

I thought the whole point of the provisional ballots was that if people couldn't prove registration, or there was some other obstacle, they could vote and their status would be checked out later.

I'm looking for Rossie finishing in Grays Harbor down 7 votes out of the final batch, and up 286 votes in Benton.

This is based on the 1221 and 750 vote totals.

So watch how the real numbers pan out, including the actual number of votes added for each of these counties.

i am guessing 289. because if the Grays Harbor website update is correct... DR will be ahead by only 5 votes not counting Benton. Benton has 750 approx to count and with a 68/30 split, that should gain Dino 285 votes.

I hope you all know that the official results now don't mean a darn thing.

Whether Gregoire or Rossi wins the first count means nothing at all. A hand recont will likely be the next occurrence, and with the race this close, anything can happen...

Sorry, I should have been clearer. I was speaking of the original batch that the Judge ruled on. Wasn;t aware the Pubs then went out and did the same thing in King.

That explains why the pickup for Gregoire was only 400 something when they had a little over 600 ballots approved by the judge. Apparently the Pubs were able to get around 200 in.

The point I was making was that in Yakima county a Judge denied the same request from Republicans, which means the counties are not being treated equally.
