I have a lib screaming at me about the Republican "take over" of the entire government, complaining about how the Senate is going to change the rules for a fillibuster.
I remember when we were the minority party, that democrats used to lock us out of debates, and other outragous tactics.
Does anyone else remember these stunts? I'm trying to find links on the web to throw back on these idiots.
Shoot, Tip the Turkey made Tom Dasshole look like a choir boy.
Kick his a$$ junior!! This ain't Dr. Laura!
After the GOP took a Senate majority in '02 some coworkers were bemoaning the fact that Repubs controlled "all 3 branches of government." Of course they meant the presidency and both houses of Congress. In any case they thought there should be some kind of balance. I asked if they had these same reservations when the Democrats controlled both houses of Congress, and the presidency. They didn't have much of an answer.
And of course, the Republicans also instituted term limits for committee chairs. Previously, you had dinosaurs like Henry Gonzalez and John Dingell chairing committees for decades. The problem with that is that older members usually do not reflect the dominant politics of the time, which changes over the years. So you most senior Democrats would be much more liberal, and your senior Republicans would be more moderate than their respective caucuses as a whole. Without term limits, we would have had liberal Jim Leach or Doug Bereuter chairing the House Financial Services Committee for the last 4 years instead of the conservative Mike Oxley, for example.
Well I remember stories of the Repub Minority leader being great at golf, because he didn't have anything to do. The repubs were seat warmers. Ask Dornan.
This is not supposed to be used to delay the confirmation of judges, but that is what the democracy-hating democrats are doing. It should only take 51 votes in the senate to confirm a judge. But because the democrats are filibustering, it really takes 60 to confirm the judge. This is unconstitutional. Now add to the fact that nowadays the rules for filibuster are more lenient, then the Republicans have no choice but to change the rules becuase the democrats keep breaking them.
Waste of time. Its like trying to argue religion with an atheist.
"Waste of time. Its like trying to argue religion with an atheist."
Funny, I have THAT argument with them too!
They also made sure committees had a two-thirds majority of Demotraitors and RINOs to be absolutely sure of control of both main legislation and amendments--
Remember the demoncRATS controlled the House of Representatives for 50 years until 1994 when pubbies made the "Contract With America" and won control of the House. Remember also that shortly after the elder Bush lost the '92 election after being stabbed in the back by the demoncRATS while trying to reach out a negotiating hand, Tom Foley then Speaker of the House laughed heartily in the press and indicated that the Prez couldn't even send to Congress a budget because it was ALWAYS DOA.
