Because they have nothing to offer by way of reform.
It's time to let Democrats in on a little secret. America is a land of perpetual rebirth and reform--always has been. That's why George W. Bush gets a pass on whatever he did before he found Jesus and swore off drinking. And it's why Bill Clinton received the benefit of the doubt over his "youthful indiscretions" in 1992. And it is why John Kerry probably would have been given a pass on his anti-Vietnam War activities, if only he could plausibly claim to have seen the error in calling his fellow veterans war criminals and equating America with communist Vietnam.
As Democrats search for an American value they can embrace, they also might want to consider that voters tend believe in American exceptionalism--that this nation is a beacon of freedom for the rest of the world. Put these two ideas together and what Donna Brazile will discover as she mixes with the common folk at Denny's and Applebee's is while Americans may complain about the daily struggle of their lives, they expect hardship on the path to a better life. It's the old biblical story of wandering in the wilderness in order to find the promised land, which is how Jonathan Edwards explained it to the generation of Americans who would turn out to fight the Revolution. And it's a much more appealing story for a nation that still identifies more with life on the frontier than it does with John Edwards's story of "two Americas." contunues...

Easy.
Because they are losers.
As Rush Limbaugh says, they can't compete in the "Arena of Ideas", not without the MSM gate-keepers of yester-year (yester-CENTURY, really) who not only filtered and slanted the news, but also had the nerve to define what does and doesn't qualify as news. When Americans are allowed to see and judge the ideas of the left and right juxtaposed to each other, evil/lunacy sticks out like a sore thumb.
Example- a blue GAP dress with presidential semen stains. That's news to me, because it insults my values. It never would have been reported if not for the New Media.
The ironic thing about the two-Americans hokum is that most Dems are the Denny's type of Americans rather than the Elaine's or some higher high-end hangout for useless swells. It's the far left that calls the shots for the rest of the party. The fact is that even the majority of Dems are social conservatives. And if Afro-Americans voted in proportions like they did until 1960, the Donkey Party wouldn't win another general election for at least fifty years. They can only exist by promising tax-payer freebies to certain segments of the population and by telling them that they can't survive without massive government assistance. When and If these consitituencies start realizing that they don't need Uncle Sam hovering over them perpertually, the current incarnation of the Dems as a far-left, nanny-statist, terrorist-appeasing, conglomeration will cease.
As for the Democrats 'getting it,' changing their image, and regaining the 'high moral ground' - there are only so many way you can paint a turd.
In the end though, it is still that - just a turd.
The problem for the RATS is that they've already sold their soul to so many different factions, with different wants and needs. The unions want this, the environmentalists want that. Same with blacks and teachers. The seniors and young voters, same problem. They have so many stances on every issue, depending on who they're talking to that to actually act will alienate a faction.
That's why, every four years, they will talk up all these issues, but when elected, not do a thing about them. They can't.
When congress is sworn in next year, the rats will have fewer sworn in since before the Depression.
Yet, because they are lunatics/mentally ill, they think that they are still in control.
It is time to start bitch slapping them with the reality that they are losers and the minority party. They can go ahead and destroy their party with their arrogant lunatic behavior, but they don't control our elected Federal Government any more.

Reality is the bitch slapper for the Lunatic Libs.
Again, as the new congress is sworn in, the Rats will have less people in congress in over 70 years.
Unity is the key word here.
The Dems couldn't unify and lost.
We did manage to come together on common ground and win.
Let's learn this lesson while it is still fresh in the air and sweet to our lips.

Unity in 2006, the year the rats in congress really become a minority.
