A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit filed by a former Ursuline Academy teacher who was fired after expressing support for abortion rights.
Michele Curay-Cramer's name was among 600 in a pro-choice newspaper ad in January of 2003.
Ursuline officials say they asked Curay-Cramer to make a retraction, but she refused; so they let her go based on the fact that her views are in violation of Catholic teaching.
Curay-Cramer sued the school, the Catholic Diocese and Bishop Michael Salterelli, claiming her free speech rights were violated; but U. S. District Court Judge Kent Jordan dismissed the suit Tuesday.
Her attorney says they will appeal.
Pro-life Ping!
As she should. She knew when she was hired to work in a Catholic school what their position was. She should have kept quiet.
HOORAY!!!!!!!!!
I can only imagine how the Noose urinal will play this in the morning. and since we can't only link from the urinal - I will remember to add it to this thread.

Pro-life ping!
GOOD! Promoting abortion is a mortal sin and a heresy. Finally some Catholics with backbone. Most of our bishops could learn something from this example. All Catholic schools, including our colleges, should require all teachers (and all employees) to sign a statement indicating that they are pro-life and support the teachings of the Church and that failing to support and abide by Church teachings WILL result in immediate termination.
Yes, finally some Catholics with backbone...I couldn't agree with you more.
Message to all morons and idiots and other Leftists: The 1st Amendment only applies to government action! If this "teacher" is too stupid to realize this, she shouldn't be teaching anywhere. BTW, who the heck was her lawyer to raise such a stupid "issue?"
as a catholic school grad...attended from kindergarten until graduating high school, this shouldnt even be a legal issue, because we have classes on abortion and masses regularly...it really is just sunday school mixed with church mixed with a typical high school...so she can't claim she has a right to state her views. We had classes on euthanasia, abortion, capital punishment, third world poverty...all important catholic social issues. They'd never allow the English teacher to tell kids the math teacher is wrong about algebra, so in terms of catholic schooling she's simply going against the chosen curriculem.
I remember the same tripe being spewed when the Dixie Chicks were getting banned by all the country radio stations.
Fellow Ursuline graduate ping! Now, if we can just get to work on some of the nuns under fifty. They are troublesome.
Gee, and usually gals with hyphenated names are so traditional and conservative.
I graduated from Salesianum. My cousin went to Ursuline.
I don't think it's the same Ursuline. There are many around the world. But run by the same nuns.
