When Rice is confirmed as Secretary of State, she will be closer to the presidency in the line of succession than any previous woman in U.S. history. While Medeline Albright also served as Secretary of State, Albright was not eligible to act as President, since she was not a natural-born citizen (she was born in Czechoslovakia and was a naturalized U.S. citizen).
