Im not sure if I know any of the Marines or soldiers fighting now in Fallujah, but I have a pretty good idea of who they are, and what theyre made of.
Theyre mostly young, and mostly tough. Some are scared, and some are itching for the fight, but most just want to get the job done as quickly and cleanly as possible.
They come from small towns and big cities. They finished high school or dropped out. Theyre planning to go to college when they get out of the service, or they have a job waiting for them back home, or they might just make the military their career.
They have wives or girlfriends and miss them terribly. They keep their loved ones picture close, sometimes taping it to the visor of their Humvee or the interior of their armored vehicle, or in a special pocket of their fatigues.
They played baseball or football or both, and theyve still got game.
Theyre respectful, focused, and dedicated, and they dont complain. They do their job quietly and efficiently. During downtime, they may talk smack, but they look and act like they can back it up.
Theyre patriotic, and brave, risking their lives to do a job few others are willing or able to do
and they deserve our respect.

Instapundit.com cites a commentator who notes that Kerry got a silver star for the same thing.
Is Rick a reservist?
If they put boxing gloves on and allowed our guys/gals to cream the left wing wussies, I would watch those shows.
"Is Rick a reservist?"
I don't think so. He was with the Marines last year when they marched in to Baghdad. I think they earned his respect and admiration.

Its true...a young VC fired an RPG at Kerry's boat and one of Kerry's crew shot the guy who crawled away in the bush. Kerry jumped off the boat and shot the guy as he was crawling away.
No Rick is not a reservist but he was embedded when US first invaded Iraq. He did a really good job of reporting in very difficult circumstances. Remember the sandstorms, he would report with sand so thick, you couldn't see him.
Then, they would have chemical warnings and have to get in their chem suits and sit inside the tanks for hours.
When they finally got to Baghdad, the group he was with were walking down the middle of the street as moving targets to draw fire from hiding terrorists.
He had probably seen the servicemen in every situation and should know first hand how brave they are.
Quite a change roaring around in an invasion with a camera from flying in the thin air.
Thanks.
I remember that he did a great job as an embedden reporter with the Marines in phase I of the Iraqi war.
