Go here and sign this petition! Mark Sanford is a great choice for 2008! He's fiscally conservative but of course he's a social conservative as well.
He's not a "beltway" type and it will take a LOT of work to get him the nomination over the rank-and-file guys like Bill Frist (who is a good guy, don't get me wrong) but it can be done.
I have said before I like Sanford as well as MN Governor Tim Pawlenty for the 2008 Presidential race.
The text does badmouth W a bit, but the fact is that in a fiscal sense, most of us agree Bush could do much better. Granted, maybe this term he will.
However, if the Dems are gonna run Hillary, we need a good candidate to run against her!
Sign this petition, it's only got 12 signatures so far, let's Freep this thing!

Sanford's not a bad choice, if not for '08 then certainly for 2012. I like what he's done down here in SC, or at least tried to do; the chief executive is not strong here, the General Assembly holds all the power, and the executive branch is fractured into tons of independent little commissions and boards who answer to legislators, not the Governor.

Eeh, Mitt's OK, but I question how conservative the guy actually is. I think he is more so than people think, they assume since he's from Massachusetts that he's another Pataki or Chaffee, but I dunno. He was born in Utah, so that might mean something.

He's fiscally conservative but of course he's a social conservative as well. I'm listening. Tell me more about his social conservatism. Is he pro-Life? Is he pro-Second Amendment? Information, please.

Wait, here's that whole paragraph which tells you everything you asked.
Sanford holds true to Republican principles on other issues, as well. While President Bush was echoing John Kerry and Al Gore's position on background checks at gun shows, Sanford was fighting them vigorously in Congress. While President Bush was parroting Kerry's desire to see the assault weapons ban renewed, Sanford was helping lead the fight against unconstitutional gun bans. While Bush promised to sign most gun bills that land on his desk, Sanford was signing a repeal of his state's one-gun-a-month law, making South Carolina a much friendlier place to gun owners and collectors. His time in Congress earned him an "A" rating from both the National Rifle Association and the Gun Owners of America. He was endorsed by the "We Vote Pro-Life" Political Action Committee and won praises from the American Conservative Union as the "Most Conservative Governor in America."
