Since "Free Republic is an online gathering place for independent, grass-roots conservatism on the web. We're working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud and corruption, and to champion causes which further conservatism in America.", I and others think it's a good idea to centralize what the goes on in the Senate (or House).
So if you see something happening on the Senate/House floor and you don't want to start a new thread to ask if anyone else just heard what you heard, you can leave a short note on who said what and about what and I'll try and find it the next day in THE RECORD. Or if you see a thread that pertains to the Senate, House, or pretty much any GOV'T agency please link your thread here.
If you have any suggestions for this thread please feel free to let me know.
Here's a few helpful links.
C-SPAN what a great thing. Where you can watch or listen live to most Government happenings.
C-SPAN 1 carries the HOUSE.
C-SPAN 2 carries the SENATE.
C-SPAN 3 (most places web only) carries a variety of committee meetings live or other past programming.
OR FEDNET has online feed also.
A great thing about our Government is they make it really easy for the public to research what the Politicians are doing and saying (on the floor anyway).
THOMAS where you can see a RECORD of what Congress is doing each day. You can also search/read a verbatim text of what each Congressmen/women or Senator has said on the floor or submitted 'for the record.' [This is where the real juicy stuff can be found.]
Also found at Thomas are Monthly Calendars for the Majority and Minority
Roll Call Votes can be found here.
THE WAR DEPARTMENT (aka The Dept. of Defense)
One that jumped out, "egregious" that's a strong word to use when talking about hardening our boarders.
Are you getting as sick as I am of people thanking the 9/11 Families
Now why isn't THAT in the press?!?!?
I'm sure there's some people that don't pay close attention to what congressmen/women say as far as agreeing w/ 9-11 families. But I'm sure they'd pick up real quick, and have a negative reaction, if they heard a congressman/woman made remarks that didn't go in lockstep w/ "Breitweisers commandments."
Sad in a way.
Here come the vote on the conference report.
15min vote (yeah right)
C-span opening phones for callers.....this ought to be good.
It passed, obviously, w/ I think 75 or 76 opposed.
I heard Tancredo on Sean Hannity say that if they got at least 100 nays on this vote, they would feel better about getting help with an immigration bill in January.
Well, they didn't get it--I hate that--
BTW I think I heard Frist say today that the wouldn't be having a ROLL CALL vote on this---if that is true, it is chicken ca-ca because we have to know how our representatives are voting on this and our senators!!!
No F'n way!
A bill this huge and they're not going to have a roll call?!?
Sticking this conference report in tonight I see.
Intelligence Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2005
H.R.4548
I may be wrong, but this is the only bill they talked about, unless they were talking about the Omnibus Bill that had to wait for the House to Ok taking out the IRS provision that "accidently" got put in. Maybe he is talking about a Uninamous consent on that since they had already approved it.
I was distracted with Kailey here today, so I may have heard wrong--- lets hope I wrong. Every Senator needs to be on record on this bill.
H. R. 4116
New coins....
Oh, news update on C-span. Senate will vote on Wed.
On agreeing to the conference report Agreed to by recorded vote: 336 - 75 (Roll no. 544).
NTS
Whitfield (R-KY)
Just checked the schedule for tomorrow on C-span--they don't yet have a schedule for c-span 2, so I guess the Senate hasn't told them when they will start tomorrow.
BTW, did you hear Harry Reid today say that Robert Byrd wanted to schedule 2-3 HOURS for morning business? I couldn't watch all day so I don't know if he did or not. Do you know? Jeez, 2-3 hours for Byrd might be 5 pages worth of speech and it just might kill him!
Also, I noticed on c-span and 9:00 am, they have a 2 hour block scheduled for a forum on "Voting irregularities in the Ohio election", with John Conyers. I bet Conyers is not there to praise the election results!!!
Sounds like BETTY CASTOR will be running for GOVERNOR OF FL next election!!
Wednesday, Dec 8, 2004
The Senate will convene at 9:30 a.m.
It may be 3,000 pages long. He's getting blind as a bat in his old age.
Defeat her.
