Thanks for the heads up---have any of you seen the press conference this morning on C-SPan with some of the 9/11 families and Jane Harmon, Chris (Rino) Shays, and some of the 9/11 commissioners?
It was pathetic--they were acting like we are going to get attacked tonight if the Intell. bill isn't signed TODAY.
One woman just made me gag (I'm sorry but my empathy for these families have faded fast), she held a picture of her son who was in the WTC--she said that he had "taken a bullet for the country" and that if this bill isn't signed, right now, then his "sacrifice" will have been made in vein.
Even, the representatives, who should know better, acted like Bush would be a failure if this didn't pass this week!!!
Please, everyone call and stand behind Duncan and Sensenbrenner.
"Eckert helped lead a vigil at the Ground Zero site in New York City. She said the measure is a test for government and phrased her feelings this way "I don't think I can here again to the place where my husband died, knowing that I failed him and his government failed him again. I don't think I can come here knowing that nothing, nothing has changed.""
Again? As if 9-11 could have been stopped.
And who elected these people to write our laws??
Oh, yeah, I heard that a couple of times during the presser, where they would say that government (Bush) FAILED them on 9/11!!!! I don't think THEY even read the 9/11 Commission Report because they still say things about why Bush didn't do something to stop the attacks!!!
I'm at the pint where I call "pathetic" not just these families but the congresspeople that are using them and this issue to get TV face time, and hoping to get more POWER which, after all, what this is all about for the dems.
Are you watching C-span now?
Brian Lamb is up [live] and talking questions about c-span and Booknotes.
I just called Senator Frist's office in Wash. and told them that I wanted Congress to hold off on the Intelligence Bill until next year, and get a better bill, regarding immigration and Duncan Hunter's concerns. I also, told him that I wanted at the least an apology by Harry Reid for his racist remark regarding Justice Thomas, yesterday on MTP. I then said that he SHOULD be replaced like Senator Lott was because Lott was replaced for a lot less disgraceful remark.
I also called my Senator Cornyn about the above. I then tried to call Reps. Hunter and Sensenbrenner and I keep getting a busy signal. I'll keep trying.
Wouldn't you know that Sheila Jackson Lee would be flapping her gums first about this!!!!!
(D-ca) "the will of the 9-11 commission"
What will?
No one elected them!
Was it me or did he just sound like he was saying (again) that we were targeting civilians?
Oooo Bill Young ripping into the Seante & Rangel....saying they "didn't do their job." [getting bills passed]
Do you think there is a whole lot of pent up anger in that room today, or what? Whoooo---I bet with a few choice words there could be fist fights.
The dems have had weeks to work up their anger over the Intel. bill, but also that one piece of paper in the 3300 page Omnibus bill regarding the IRS, really has the dems hot under the sports collar. Ain't this fun!!!
Yep, you heard the little socialist Kuchy right, and I love they way these dems treat the 9/11 commission like they brought their report down from the same mountain as the 10 commandments--oops, never mind, musn't mix up church and state!!!
Okay, I have been telling my self I will be very disappointed if Bush doesn't take Hunter and Sensenbrenner's side on the Intel. bill, but I heard a talking head yesterday (maybe Bill Kristol or Brit, I don't remember) say that there could be two reasons he will push to get is done. 1---because if an attack DID happen soon, then the dems and families couldn't use this bill against him (chicken, but CYA), and 2--so that when the new session starts in January, congress can get to his NEW agenda and he doesn't want this argument to bleed over to next congress. What do you think?
From what I heard this morning the Driver licenses part was going to be stripped from this bill and would be put back up on it's own. [And I hope it fails, Illegals shouldn't get drivers licenses.] And the part regarding troops on the ground being able to use Intel. will get fixed too. Not really sure as far as why Pres. Bush wants this intell reform so bad. Even if we are attacked I doubt these new changes would have much effect on how we react, although it might but I think it's going to take years to fully implement the changes.
When was the last time congress DIDN'T have to go back to the last years business and finish it? Seems like they do that quite often.
Even the Republican representative is throwing the Senate under the bus for this mistake and the Ominibus in general.
I hate Omnibus bills, and I agree that the Senate did not get its appropriation bills done in time, and I think the main reason is that all this year, the dems have been campaigning in the Senate instead of working on the bills for the people of America. Unfortunately, Senator Frist is not a strong enough personality to push the dems to quit their stalling and campaigning. I think Bush is rueing the day he endorsed Frist over Don Nickles.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think Bush likes the bill or the commission that forced it down his throat at all, and I don't think it will make us any safer than what Bush has already done ( and I think Bush thinks so, too), but unfortunately, this country (not just dems) has decided the families of 9/11 deserve to make legislation, force legislation and take credit for legisltation, which is not the way our government works.
I just don't think Karl Rove feels that any fight they put up would help, but it could hurt if Bush wants to "cash in" by reminding some of the dems of his support for this bill, when some nominee or program of his comes up for a vote.
Have you been watching the press conference regarding the Intelligence Bill?
There is a thread on this now that has most posters ready to impeach Bush, I think. Maybe they need to watch C-span more and learn how legislation works. Bush doesn't just wave a wand and things are exactly a certain way, even with both houses being Republican.
hehe C-span is replaying Rangel from earlier....now Young is up.
There is a representative Steve King on the floor now, blasting the Intell. bill, about "group think" and now the immigration part-----Ya HOoo-----Let's remember his name so we can give him props and get his help next session!!!
