Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

Thanks for the 'rest of the story'. . .
Sikes is obviously no lightweight; which means as well; he is old enough and experienced enough, to know better.

I totally agree. I heard the tape this morning; they clearly were concerned with whether one of the terrorists was faking death. They had no way of knowing if he was booby-trapped, had a grenade...what.
We always taught our soldiers to sustain fire until they were ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN WITH ZERO DOUBT that the enemy had been rendered harmless.
It would be a CRIMINAL DISSERVICE to these soldiers for us to require otherwise. It will get them killed if they don't follow the above rule.
I understand that this young man or a friend of his had been injured in just such a way a some recent date.
Please write your senator, congressman, media outlets in support of this young man.

I just sent my senators (Levin and Stabenow) an e-mail voicing my support for this soldier. By tommorrow they'll send a form letter back thanking me for my support for the prosecution of the soldier.
(God I'm sick of those two)

"Consider me in - the story here should NOT be the Marine shooting - it should become the MSM and their obsession with condemning the military! At some point, this has to stop. The enemy in this case is well-aware of how to use media coverage and our own media is supplying them with everything they need!"
That bares repeating as it's the gospel truth. The MSM continually aid the enemy and endanger troops. Their blatant bias and lies during the election was bad enough, now they are making it open season on our troops and the war effort. This must stop.

I kinda figured I did. I hate the MSM and what some of the embeds have done in their attempt to paint our troops in a bad light.

It's time to get these "imbedded" reporters the hell out of there. This is war. How can we expect our guys to fight a war with some reporter looking over their shoulder. It will cause the troops to hesitate causing more deaths and injuries on our side.

I still say take Mr. Sites camera out of his hand and put a rifle there instead. Then let him walk point for a while. In this war there is NO such thing as a noncombatant! As for contacting the CMC, or other higher ups, I am afraid at this point that there is no one who step in the fray to help him. It would set a precedence that could back fire on us. I am certain that this young L/Cpl will be found to be acting within the good conduct of the war and of his fellow Marines! General Grant said it best, when he said "war is he11!"

I just saw Sites on MSNBC and he's backing off big time.
He read a prepared statement saying, "troops have been professional," "the situation was very confusing" and "only the soldier knows if he felt threatened."
Sites looked very nervous...
Put on MSNBC, they are sure to re-run it in the next hour or two....

More info I heard this morning: that platoon lost a soldier to a booby-trapped bosy the previous day, and that trooper himself had been wounded in the face some time earlier (they did not say if it were hours days or more).

The insurgents lost their right to surrender when they gunned down that soldier after waving a white flag at the start of this operation.

I couldn't agree with you more.
As well, I am quite sure I've heard that some Marines have approached injured or presumed terrorists only to have them blow themselves up, killing the approaching Marine in the process.
