I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?
Yes, there are a number of duplicate threads, and FR is being held up to illustrate how ill informed, or just plain dangerous, conservatives are. :-(
For example, posters have suggested that the Geneva Conventions should be abandoned, that all embedded reporters should be shot, that there's nothing wrong with shooting prisoners, etc.
Unfortunately, I think those extremist views are outside the general range of disagreement on the topic that we have, but that's what gets portrayed elsewhere.

Folks, it's hitting the Japanese websites and news press right now (Wednesday afternoon over there).
Quite anti-American in tone, judgemental, showing stills (without the lead up or background of the fighting explained) of the shooting and tainting us as immoral and having stirred up an Arab's bees nest (because it was in "a mosque, a holy site." A real "Rodney King" case is being created, with Uncle Sam on trial.
Gee, THANKS NBC. Gee, THANKS NBC. Gee, THANKS NBC.Gee, THANKS NBC.Gee, THANKS NBC.Gee, THANKS NBC.Gee, THANKS NBC.
Traitors.
One correction: GE, who owns NBC Thanks. GE, who owns NBC Thanks. GE, who owns NBC Thanks. GE, who owns NBC Thanks.
Thanks for the reply.
Oh, hell no! I'm mad as hell too!
The idea that we would PROSECUTE this Marine is hideous. This is war. Iraq is not covered by the Geneva Convention. These barbarians are using our decency against us and they have cost too many American lives already.
ALL soldiers there should do as that Marine did.
This is WRONG WRONG WRONG.
Mr. President- PLEASE- don't let this happen!!!
"SUGGESTION:
If everyone used there PING lists and rally an email writing to President Bush and VP Cheney to the effect that enough is enough, time to boot the media out of Iraq. Their presence is damaging our military and overall effort. The terrorists are playing to the cameras. And, did you ever wonder how pictures have been taken of the terrorists shooting RPGs at our troops.
President Bush & VP Cheney's email address is:
president@whitehouse.gov
vice.president@whitehouse.gov
GREAT IDEA!
ABC, AP, CBS, CNN, FOX, MSNBC, NBC, NY Times
are no friends of America
First of all, these wounded terrorists were NOT prisoners - they were not restrained, confined under guard, or secured in any way from the time they were shot the day before until the Marines came back on them the next day. Someone could have come, during that time, and boobytrapped the bodies, as the terrorists had been known to do, as they had not been secured under guard.
This is the best argument for why I think there was a horrid misunderstanding.
And, BTW, there was another wounded terrorist there who was not seen as a threat and he was NOT shot as he appeared to be cooperating with them.
There were SEVERAL wounded insurgents (not sure if they were terrorists or not), not just one. The conversation on the video clip seems to indicate that these Marines didn't realize these insurgents were known to be alive...as the cameraman said. Else why would the one say "playing dead"? A severely wounded man might not be able to "surrender" (especially if he thinks he already did, the day before), yet is still hors de combat...and it doesn't make him more of a target than a less wounded man who can surrender again.
Again, it seems to be a misunderstanding.
Malicious motives should not be applied to this young Marine.
And as I have indicated repeatedly, I suspect a mistake, rather than malicious motives. However, there's too little information available to conclusively (a) Hang the Reporter, or (b) Hang the Marine.
This media bias is probably bringing "flashbacks" to our Vietnam vets.
I think you're missing the point here.
Kevin Sites worked with Tom Brokaw. Kevin Sites knows what's going on. I would well wager that Sites is fully embedded with the MSM and their commie views. He knows that the MSM is anti-Bush and anti-war and he knew damn well what would happen with that footage when he handed it to them. I would equate it to handing a gun to the enemy.
The actions of this Marine should not be evaluated in the enemy camp, i.e., the MSM.
OHMIGOD! Nightline is on and whatsisname is claiming that it was an ABC cameraman in the mosque. Is all of the MSM so eager to take credit for getting this gotcha moment on the Marines?
An of course, they are going around and asking Iraqis and they are saying how awful Americans are. That they didn't know how much the Americans are for destruction and don't care about Human rights!!!!!!!!!!
Just leave it to Ted Koppel to put the ABSOLUTELY WORST spin on this for America. I just don't think I can take the treasonous media anymore!!!!!!!
He moved, he killed him. End of story.
I haven't seen evidence that Sites is spinning it against the troops, directly. I think that it's the networks who are doing the spinning.
Pray. And don't buy GE lightbulbs either. You have some good ideas, and I believe we already have the networks trying to find a way around this. I do believe they are about to try to silence our opinion by sliming us the same way they have slimed this admin. and the Swift Vets and troops.
We shall see. I am making "friends" on this one elsewhere. Sometimes, when one calls them as one sees them, it gets a bit heated. What really annoys me, is that the guy did it with the cameras rolling. That is not a very smart move, either for him, or for our country's cause. In fact it annoys me a lot. I suspect the guy will be retired from service shortly. If exculpating facts come out, I will be delighted and relieved. I don't expect that to happen.
Horrible isn't it? Just how do they sleep with all that blood on their hands?
Uh huh. And that's why he gave it to the Bolshevik media. /sarc
I don't think the GE thing is enough: ABC is one-upping NBC tonight. Now, Koppel has some woman on giving the ARAB MEDIA perspective of the war crime. She is saying that the Arab world believes that there are sytematic abuses done on a daily basis by American troops against the insurgents.
Now she is saying that since Al-Jazeera was kicked out of Baghdad, UNFORTUNATELY the insurgents don't have a voice to tell their side of the story. Oh boo-hoo!!!
the media is now our proven enemy
here and abroad
when they return greet them
start with NBC
It would have annoyed me if he let the dead ender trigger an IED. They weren't in custody. If anybody is responsible for this guys death, it is the deadenders who booby trap bodies, blow themselves up and fire under the white flag.
Restraint should have been shown, not by this Marine but by the news media who slammed his name all over the Mideast.
Uh, most FReepers would support a person working for a living and being paid. He's a freelancer who was on assignment for NBC. Gee, that means the tape goes to the media.
Yeah, and some of our people don't have heads to tell theirs.
Sorry traitors.
I watched a piece on PBS (I know, I know) tonite about the 500 and some POW's that were held by the Japanese for 3 1/2 years. Our fine troops rescued every single one in that camp. They went in and killed hundreds of the enemy within minutes.
I could not help but think of how our troops are being attacked today by the enemy within as they fight in this war.
