Marine accused of wrongful shooting needs our help...
16 nov 04 | Atlanta

Posted on 11/16/2004 4:34:34 AM PST by Atlanta

I'm going to start with a communication of support of this young Marine, to the Commandant of the Marine Corps himself. Then, President Bush and my Senator/Congressman.They are going to hear from me and I have all friggin day to do it. I am so livid about this that words cannot describe. As a former Marine myself, this young "Leather" was doing what he was trained to do, adapting to unreasonable circumstances (enemy tricks) and he did exactly what I would have done and what has always been done with a fanatical enemy. If authorities hang this Marine out to dry, I will never stop raising hell and will become a point man for pulling these guys out of theater entirely...MSM is SICK. Other suggestions?

Imagine this gang! I just tried to send an email to NBC. Their "contact us" button doesn't work. Cowards all!

While watching the video did you notice clean and spotless the white cloth material between the terrorist in question and the already-dead one next to him?

It certainly had not been used as a bandage, and the worn clothing was dark colors.

In this Marines boots, I would have been compelled to surmise that this was another surrender-to-kill ruse (ESPECIALLY upon sudden movement), as has been the norm in Fallujah.

This Marine is guilty only of being alert and ready, IMO. The reporter might have been killed were it not for this Marine.

" He should be led out of Iraq in handcuffs and charged with treason. "

How about leaving him somewhere in insurgent occupied territory like Mosul or Ramadhi and see how the insurgents treat him.

The gook Kerry backshot was armed with an RPG. He was also wounded by .50 fire.

Wrong Bender,

In a time of war against terrorists, and in a sustained, on-going, highly stressful, combat environment, this incident does not merit any type of prosecution. By prosecuting a young Marine over a dubious incident will do more harm than good. It will give the enemy 'aid and comfort,' which will lead to more Americans dying in combat. The military better give this Marine the benefit of the doubt or face a more embolden enemy, and demoralize our forces by over the top scrutiny.

Since the enemy on many occasions have faked surrender and other under handed tactics, the United States military has the right not to give any quarters to the enemy, a tactic that I wish we would use more often.

We will see if the U.S. makes the right call in this case.

Tony Snow is talking about this right now.

And.....

What's he saying?

We all don't have him available wherever he is--Fox? Radio? What, when and where?

The Marine showed mercy. The enemy's head wasn't savagely removed. Besides, it's about time NBC and and other media be held accountable for treason, namely aiding the enemy. Our military knows what needs to be done in Iraq and how to do it. Now is the time for them to inflict some real pain on the enemy, and maybe these stone age people will get the message.

"I hope it was a self defense for the terrorists faking death to hint the terrorist might have something in his hand to detonate his suicide vest..."

If the Marine says anything of the sort, and the tape shows the slightest hint of backing him up, no problem - but if the others in his squad, say " Yeah, he's done that a lot..." I sure don't want him coming back to MY city.

I agree... These insurgents do not fight fair... This one could have had a bomb strapped to himself... You have to fight as dirty as the other guy to win anyways...

No, you have to adopt tactics that counter dirty tactics...it doesn't mean you have to fight as dirty as they. Just because running barefoot in black pajamas can be effective for a peasant force doesn't mean we should so equip our troops, and the same is for these dirty tricks.

That doesn't mean we should ignore the dirty tricks and fight as if they aren't occurring, but we must counter them, not focus on adopting them. I'm sure you'd agree, but I think it needs to be clarified and stated.

"He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes a precedent that will reach to himself."

By rules, regs and decency, we do not shoot wounded enemy combatants. Period.

So our soldiers should let themselves be blown up by wounded terrorists who have wired themselves up with explosives and are ready to push the button? Seems to me the tactics your enemy is using dictate what you must do if you don't want to get killed.

NBC's New York news studio is (212) 664-4444. Ask for "complaint line." Also, I suggest calling or e-mailing local NBC affiliate.

I was in Charlie 1/5 in Vietnam (67-68). I am mad enough to get in trouble over NBC's treachery.

I took your suggestion and called, and asked for the complaint line. Told them I was furious that Sites had given the video to Reuters instead of the DoD. Told them I didn't have NBC on my DirecTV and never would, because of coverage like this. Told them that I'd be calling sponsors and urging them to drop NBC period. Told them I was sick of them all.

So here's a bump for the number you gave. It's good. ;-D

General Hagee wil understand the "Fog of War" this young hard-charger was experiencing. The news didn't state if the terrorist had a weapon (pretty much assuming he did), the Marine was well within his rights to shoot, this is a war zone, not some Police shooting range. I remember when we were getting a briefing for Somalia, out LT started into the "If a child approaches your tank with a basket and won't stop because they dont understand English, what do you do?" Everyone in the briefing room said they would either fire a warning shot or put the kid down right then and there. This wasn't the answer he was looking for, but self preservation wins out over political considerations.

The news media seems to cling to the idea that conventional warfare guidelines apply here. A 13 year old boy firing at you with an AK-47 is an enemy combatant. A 10 year old girl walking toward a HMWVV with a basket full of plastique is an enemy combatant. A wounded sniper that was moments before trying to kill you and your buddies on your fire-team and is now rolling over to set off the grenade under him so he can go to Allah, is an enemy combatant. This is beyond asinine to say this young Devil Dog had the time and judgement to make a decision about this situation. A terrorist that is still moving could be doing anything, pulling a knife to charge at you, a pistol, a grenade, the bunker may have been booby-trapped to blow up, or surrendering. I am guessing he was not surrendering...the mind set of the terrorists being that he gets to go to Allah and collect his virgins or whatever...

The media should realize what is good for them and let this one go.
