Thanks for the link.
Did you catch at the end they said that one seriously wounded but alive terrorist could be a crucial witness against the marine?
Who would take the word of the enemy terrorist over a US Marine? The world has gone mad.
I'm sure the other marines who were with him will serve as witnesses for this marine....

" Hardball Outrage: Chris Mathews just said the insurgents weren't the "Bad Guys", they were just "defending their country." Matthews also described them tonight " as people who don't agree with us." Chris Jansing of MSNBC a few months ago, called them " resistance fighters. "Mujahidin terrorised Fallujah, residents say:.............Flyposters still litter the walls bearing all manner of decrees from insurgent commanders, to be heeded on pain of death. ............The decree warns all women that they must cover up from head to toe outdoors, or face execution by the armed militants who controlled the streets. Two female bodies found yesterday suggest such threats were far from idle. An Arab woman, in a violet nightdress, lay in a post-mortem embrace with a male corpse in the middle of the street. Both bodies had died from bullets to the head. ..........A man in his sixties, half-naked and his underwear stained with blood from shrapnel wounds from a US munition, cursed the insurgents as he greeted the advancing marines on Saturday night. "I wish the Americans had come here the very first day and not waited eight months," he said, trembling. ................Another elderly man: "It was horrible," he told an AFP reporter."We suffered from the bombings. Innocent people died or were wounded by the bombings. "But we were happy you did what you did because Fallujah had been suffocated by the Mujahidin. Anyone considered suspicious would be slaughtered. We would see unknown corpses around the city all the time."

Dear Reporters,
War is Hell. Stop trying to p*ssify our soldiers unless you REALLY want to know what Hell is like, jackwits.

Gee, how like a hokey, stereotypical Vietnam war move this sounds. Convenient, no?

>>What do the rules say about mounting an attack from a church (mosque), school, or hospital?<,
Obviously, not allowed. . .however, if you are, say, engaged in street-to-street, house-to-house fighting and duck inside a church for cover, that is not wrong.
>>What do the rules say about feigning death or surrender, in order to mount an attack (it has happened at least four times by my count)?<
Happened many more times in modern warfare and thus rules were developed to prohibit that activity/deception.
>>[What do the rules say about participating in belligerent activity while posing as a civilian? Or doing so while mingling among civilians to disguise your intentions, for that matter
]<<
No protections then, you are acting in a criminal manner and thus subject to criminal prosecution.
>>So I guess the Big Question is that if you routinely mount attacks from a church, school, or hospital AND have feigned death or surrender to mount an attack, do the clear rules still hold?<<
Not what you asked and certainly subject to whatever the situation dictates.
But I get your point. . .you are pissed and rightly so. Just let it all out. . .I don't mind. . .go ahead. . .
IOW, are you worthy of being *allowed* to surrender? Surrender is a *benefit* usually (traditionally) bestowed to those behaving in a lawful manner.
Short answer: yes. Same thing as some slug murderer surrendering to the police and coming out with their hands up. And in this case I am sure the bad guy will be treated most humanly by the Iraqi authorities. . .OUCH!
Not that it matters, really... they haven't solicited my opinion - ever.
Oh, but I will.

Right. The Nazis we were fighting in Germany in WWII weren't bad guys. They just didn't agree with us and were defending their country.

"Son, we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with guns. Whose gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have more responsibility here than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Santiago, and you curse the marines. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Santiago's death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And that my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. I know deep down in places you dont talk about at parties, you don't want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom I provide, then question the manner in which I provide it. I prefer you said thank you, and went on your way, Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon, and stand to post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to!"

My uncle knew Ernie Pyle during WWII. He said that Ernie never put down our troops but reported the facts. I also believe that Ernie was wounded. Ernie Pyle was more than wounded. He was killed in action.
U.S. troops erected a sign where he was killed. "At this spot the 77th Infantry Division lost a buddy, Ernie Pyle.".

Screw the reporter.
Screw the dead terrorist.
This is war.
This is not a Queensbury Rules match, and I am gratified to hear we are not trying to play by them, for the most part.
These guys would slowly saw the head off of any US Marine who might have the misfortune of being captured alive.
These are not "Freedom Fighters". These are not people who have the best interest of Iraq in mind. These are people who are trying to get us to leave, and if they succeed, you can bet they are going to slaughter any Iraqi who tried to help coalition forces.
Do I hate feeling this way? Yes. I hate war, and I hate this war. My heart goes out to all those young men, who no doubt, would do nearly anything to be anywhere else, if they could do it without dishonoring them or their buddies. But this is the right place for them to be.
There should be no embedded reporters, except for Oliver North.

I've seen this quote attributed to the same story in another thread here...
About a block away, a Marine was killed and five others wounded by a booby-trapped body they found in a house after a shootout with insurgents.
If that is the case, then that sums it all up for me. You booytrap the dead and wounded, and we're not going to be doctors or morticians anymore. Seems to me the Marine was more than justified.

These are people who are trying to get us to leave, and if they succeed, you can bet they are going to slaughter any Iraqi who tried to help coalition forces. That is something far too many forget. It would be nice if we could be nice guys in these types of situations, but the enemy is not going to be nice. Your talking about people who would drive a car into a crowd and blow it up, killing and maiming the old, young, newborn, and whoever else just happened to be there.
I know there is the Geneva Convention, and I know that we like to be the nice guys who do right by everybody, and under certain circumstances, we can afford to be the nice guys. This is not one of those times. If we took care of every single insurgent we merely wounded, they would turn right back around and do whatever they could to kill Americans or Iraqis.
