Nine More States Promise Constitutional Gay "Marriage" Ban

WASHINGTON, November 9, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Nine more US states have pledged the introduction of constitutional amendments to ban same-sex "marriage."

Legislators in the states of Alabama, Idaho, South Carolina and Washington have promised to introduce amendments in the coming weeks, while Texas and Virginia representatives have begun the process with "pre-filed" constitutional amendments.

Massachusetts, Tennessee and Wisconsin amendments have already passed a first vote and require one additional vote in either of the legislative assemblies, before going to voters for final approval.

The overwhelming success of marriage amendments in all 11 states that proffered them November 2, "will encourage legislators in other states to follow suit," Alliance Defense Fund lawyer Glen Lavy said. The approval of traditional marriage as typified by the vote last week "was an overwhelming endorsement of the idea that marriage is what it always has been - [the union of] a man and a woman," Lavy said, as reported by The Washington Times.

The success of the amendment vote last week should give lawmakers "some confidence that this is an issue that the American people are behind and are willing to support," Institute for Marriage and Public Policy in Washington legal analyst Joshua Baker said.

Constitutional amendments banning same-sex "marriage" have already passed in 17 states, including: Hawaii, Alaska, Nebraska, Missouri, Louisiana and Nevada. Arkansas, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon and Utah all passed their amendments November 2.

Canadian Conservative MP Rob Moore introduced a private member's bill Friday, allowing Parliamentarians the opportunity to vote on the definition of marriage for Canada.

I think that uttering or penning the words "Gay "Marriage" Ban or MANDATE or overturn Roe v. Wade all have the same effect on the DUmmies we know & love...

-that's a good thing; as they meltdown and fragment we enact and consolidate...

James Carville admitted Sunday on "Beat the Mess", if you're looking for a party against same-sex marriage, if you're looking for a party ahainst abortion, the Democratic party is not your party. I wonder how long it will take those who claim Christianity to realize the destructive path on which their party is traveling?

The polling data I keep seeing shows around 80% support of traditional marriage- and I suspect that support is actually higher, but that some people are afraid of being smeared as "intolerant."

I find it interesting that Oregon is on the list. I know they have assisted suicide in that state. Haven't they also legalized medical marijuana?

I'm not trying to link the issues, except to say that a state liberal enough to have medical pot and assisted suicide, but not gay marriage seems odd.

lmao -yes, the dems are in a lose lose situation.

IF they maintain thier strong support of the immoral they lose -if they ditch the immoral they still lose -as a party of pandering untrustable moral flip floppers with a track record embracing immorality...

thier record seals thier fate for now and probably many many years UNTIL they can pull themselves up by thoie bootstraps and groom some upstanding moral candidates...

In essence, dems are toast, dems are irrelevant... They will either purge themselves or suffer future subsequent electoral purgings...

Which is why the new amendments should also derecognize civil unions. No "alternative lifestyle" marriages by any other name. This will leave thos states with "civil unions" as a local taxpayer phenomenon and provide zero need to involve FEDERAL programs.

Homosexuals are free to sign cohabitation agreements same as they always have been.

I got into a discussion just yesterday with my Dad (who's a Democrat) and his explanation is as I was expecting. "Jesus expects us to not judge others, but show compassion".

His claim is that Republicans hold to the law like the Old Testament teachings while Democrats adhere more closer to the New Testament of "not judging" people. I told him that was a crock and that Jesus commanded that his followers respect law and order as an act of obedience and to respect life, which the Democratic platform seriously neglects, evidenced by their continued denegration of basic moral values.

I'm expecting the Democratic party to base their "religious calling" on the asinine "situational ethics" position. We'll see....

It'll be interesting too, to see how the ACLU nitwits handle the Dems' new religious positions.

This should help us to win more seats in Congress in 2006.

The moderate ones will not say anything about this or will mouth PC mantras and then vote against the outrage of gay marriage in the voting booth.

If Guiliani was a candidate it would be better than a amend-the-constitution-ahnold candidacy.
They are opening up dangerous-political-pandora box if they amend the constitution for that guy.
Careful what you wish for you may just get it.

I agree about Ah-nold (I can't spell last name!) and the amendment.

We shouldn't rush headlong into a redefinition for all time of the qualifications for Chief Executive.

PS Guiliani has a lot of items in the plus column, to be sure. I will personally be thankful to him for his leadership on 9/11 alone. And he transformed NYC!

I just don't think he'd get the nomination. Or that he'd get the kind of support he would need in order to win the presidency if he were nominated.

I could be wrong.

And so we approach the 37 states needed to ratify a federal constitutional amendment.

We're already at 37 states which have CCW, admittedly with varying state restrictions on availability and use.

This may be splitting hairs, but I note the ever-increasing whine from the Left is that these referendums were "bans!" and get the sense that they feel like some inalienable right was snatched away from them, just as they were about to achieve it.

An outstanding post on how the Left seeks to wage it's usual propaganda war, along with the required emotional element.

As Limbaugh never tires of pointing out, they always make their appeals based on an emotional element because the facts won't support their positions.
