Specter = Kerry

specter = too liberal for a republican leadership role.

People need to be reminded that Senator Arlen Specter received $10,000 for Ideology/Single Issue money for supporting Abortion, not Pro-Life.

The following is from Post #37 by Cedar on thread:

Caught on Tape -- Planned Parenthood & NAF Conceal Child Abuse

------------------------------------------------------
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1279600/posts
------------------------------------------------------

Also, alot of Pro-Abortion money/effort went into electing Senator Arlen Specter as a Senator again. Several of us talked about the Specter/Pro-Abortion Donations last night on the following thread, starting at post #23:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1279443/posts

And this is a comment I made last night on the thread I linked:

"Found some interesting comments on the "pro-abortion/choice" group embedded in the Republican Party, known as Republican Pro-Choice Coalition. Apparently they keep company with the very liberal Planned Parenthood and Emily's List, etc.

Here are statements about their giving money and large support to Specter:

April 6--In addition to Sen. Arlen Specter's pitch to a Jewish group of Democrats, and the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition's direct-mail campaign urging 20,000 Democratic voters to switch for the primary, a major international union is getting into the game...

April 18-...the Republican Pro-Choice Coalition. The Washington group is spending $450,000 for Specter, including 200,000 mailings now going to moderate Republicans, said Jennifer Blei Stockman, the national cochair.

August 23-..Amid those heavy flows of political donations, pro-choice political organizations like Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice America, EMILY's List, The WISH List and the Republican Majority for Choice are also expected to raise substantial sums during election season of over $50 million to support pro-choice candidates, get out the vote and broadcast advertisements. "

This was not posted on the thread I mentioned but found it interesting also. I copied it from Operation Rescue's report called "Tiller Report":

"Also in 1996, Tiller revealed that he had donated an additional $5,700 to various Democrat candidates, all of whom lost, $4,300 to the Kansas Democratic State Committee and $1,000 to the Clinton-Gore .96 Primary Committee. The only Republican who received a contribution from Tiller was pro-abortion Senator Arlen Specter, who received $4,795 for his failed Presidential campaign. However, the Specter campaign returned the money."

He doesn't need to be removed, only not made the chairman. Here is what will happen, IMHO.

The Republicans will restructure the numbers on the committee to reflect the new Republican majority in the senate to something like 11 Republicans to 8 Democrats and a majority vote gets the appointment to the senate floor for a vote.

He cannot be made chairman because he can hold up appointments without a committee vote, I think.

The suggestion that Specter's appointment be delayed for two years is not acceptable. In some ways it would be worse, because his impending chairmanship would negatively affect the vote in 2006. Also, Bush will inevitably be more of a lame duck then, so Specter's capacity to make mischief will increase as time passes.

Over the last 40 years the high courts have taken cases that should have been resolved in the State courts. ie prayer in schools, the Texas sodomy law. We can no longer trust our Judicial System to go by the U S Constitution. They want to dabble in "International Law!" We are doing the right thing to prevent Specter from being on or heading the Judicial Committee and we need to step up the complaints until we get conservative judges appointed.

Thanks for all the Links.

I've e-mailed Frist - no Specter on Judiciary.

Frist's comments on Sunday indicate he is being left out to dry.

That the Repubs are even considering this Democrat in Republican clothing for chairman is astounding.

Good morning, AR.

Is there any update on when the committees & the whole GOP will actually vote on the chairmanships? There's been conflicting messages on whether the vote occurs this week, on in January, and I thought I heard Frist on TV yesterday saying in a few weeks.

I'm afraid that the more time passes, the more likely he is to fenagle votes from weak-kneed senators. On the other hand, the more time passes, the more the GOP can try to wrench something out of him.

Hypocrite Lugar supports Specter: In an odd development, Senator Lugar stated his support for Specter becoming chairman mainly because of GOP Senate rules. Lugar stated, "If Republicans decide they want to change of all them, that's a different situation." However in 1986, Lugar did not let these rules stop him from challenging Sen. Jesse Helms for the chairman's job on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

These rules did not exist in 1986. Lugar has a point. The rules need to be uniformly dropped, they are bad news. It's not right to have this queuing system and yet single out one senator as an exception. This idiotic system discourages competition and goes against the very core Republican belief in "the best man for the job." These rules seem to be a throwback to the old boys country club mentality of the paleocon Republicans of the past. It needs to end now.

Senator Kyle was on both the Laura Ingraham show and the G Gordan Liddy show this morning talking about the situation with the Judiciary Chairmanship. He basically was defining the situation for those who have not been following the story. He made no mention of the possibility that he might pursue a challenge, but when I heard he was on both shows, I was jumping up and down in hopes that he might be getting that exposure as a test balloon to see if he gets support and political cover to make a try.

PLEASE CONTINUE THE EMAILS AND CALLS!!! ESPECIALLY URGE KYLE TO PURSUE A CHALLENGE!!

Thanks AR for the threads

From NotSpecter.com:

http://www.notspecter.com

Friends - we're in the homestretch in the fight to stop Arlen Specter.

This week - the Congress returns for a 'lame duck' session. The word inside the Beltway is that this is the week that Arlen Specter will have to make his case to the other Republican members of the Judiciary Committee that he should serve as Chairman.

This fight is not over - and we have a great chance to win it. We've seen some very positive signs that our pressure is working. Just this weekend, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist DECLINED to support Arlen Specter for Chairman. And you know that if the Majority Leader is willing to publicly distance himself from Senator Specter - the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are close to doing the same.

This week may be our last chance to stop a liberal from leading the fight to confirm judges to the federal bench. You've signed our petition - but we need to do more.

We've sent thousands of faxes to Capitol Hill through NotSpecter.com, I strongly urge you to take the time and send YOUR fax. You can do so by clicking here. (http://www.notspecter.com/fax.php)

Don't let the politicians in Washington believe that this is just a momentary outcry that subsides after a few days - keeping up the pressure is CRUCIAL.

But don't stop there - your phone calls matter. Take 15 minutes of your day, perhaps on a coffee or lunch break. Pick up the phone and call each of the Senate Judiciary Committee members. Here are their phone numbers:

Majority Leader Bill Frist (202) 224-3344
Senator Saxby Chambliss (202) 224-3521
Senator Larry Craig (202) 224-2752
Senator John Cornyn (202) 224-2934
Senator Mike DeWine (202) 224-2315
Senator Lindsey Graham (202) 224-5972
Senator Charles Grassley (202) 224-3744
Senator Jon Kyl (202) 224-4521
Senator Jeff Sessions (202) 224-4124
It will only take a few minutes, and it might make the difference between an agenda set by the President, or an agenda set by Arlen Specter.

Best,

NotSpecter.com

HI there AR!! Have there been any developments today? Did the committee meet with Specter?

I called some of the committee member offices a while ago and hope others are keeping the phone calls and emails going.
