Went to see my Sooners play Saturday night. During the game, the announcer said "welcome America's favorite newscaster to the University of Oklahoma" and the Jumbo-cam zoomed in on Brokaw. There were 84000 fans there that night and about 79,9999 of them booed Brokaw. He looked stunned at first, but then laughed it off as if to look unaffected. People were laughing their butts off over it. A warm Sooner welcome....
No, booing is the only way to make these people really hear us, booing politicians is useless, but show biz people really hate to have their act rejected.
Tom got the message that his act doesn't play in Norman.
"but don't boo someone just because they are A.) a liberal"
Are you serious? Booing someone because they are liberal is the least I would do, especially Tom Brokaw. My two sons were there last night at the game and they booed at the top of their lungs. I'm so proud of them...a chip off the ol' block!
Smeagol is trolling tonight.
Brokaw was paid $75,000 to deliver the commencement address at OU's graduation ceremony last spring, and he used his platform to trash President Bush, the war in Iraq, and the graduating class, telling them they didn't measure up to the "greatest generation." PhiKapMom was there, and that's why I pinged her here. I'm sure she'll be happy to fill you in on more of the details- she mentioned that a LOT of the people in the audience were very upset over Brokaw's spew.
I'd say Brokaw got exactly what he deserved.
Hey! What are you doing in here? You just got kicked out of a different thread for being a troll.
Your leftward bias is showing. Anchors in the MSM don't just read the news, they shape it.
I don't trust any news anchor that has used the words, "President," and, "Saddam Hussein," far more times together than they've used the words, "President," and, "Bush," together.
PA ANNOUNCER: Ladeeeees and Gentlemennnnnn...Tom Browkaw!!!
BLUE STATE CROWD:BOOOOOOOOO!!!!
TOM BROKAW: Are they saying "Boooooo?"
KOLLEGE PREZIDINT: "Uh, no... They were saying "NEWS!!!"
BLUE STATE CROWD: "No we weren't!!! We were saying "BOOOOOOOO!!!"
HANS MOLEMAN: I was saying "news."
You're tilting at windmills. How on earth can you tell 60,000 people at a football game NOT to have a spontaneous reaction that comes instinctively?
Agree & I am sure that a few of my Nebraska fans joined in with OU. BTW Congrats Sooners. Wish we could have made a game of it. Also Smeagol is trolling.
Screw that - I'm not in the mood for tact right now. Ever since the election ended, I and the rest of the 52% of the voters here in Florida who had the "audacity" to vote for George Bush have had nothing but scorn, contempt and abuse heaped on us by Tom Brokaw and his colleagues in the leftist media. We've been called stupid, illiterate, racist warmongers and religious zealots. We've been presented as being in favor of slavery, wife beating and child abuse, and as being a bunch of ne'er-do-well welfare slackers living off the "enlightened" Blue States.
Every other Freeper and his/her neighbor who lives in a Red State has gotten the exact same treatment by Tom Brokaw and his fellow self-proclaimed "elites." They sit in their cozy Manhattan cocoons and act like little children who've just gotten spanked by Mommy for misbehaving, and congratulate themselves by calling their tantrums evidence of their "sophistication" and their "worldliness." They show no interest whatsoever in learning from their man's electoral defeat, preferring to cling to their "Deliverance" stereotypes and their belief that all GWB voters handle snakes, talk in tongues and lynch blacks and gays in the middle of the night.
So until they back off of trashing me and the other 60 million people who voted for George Bush, I'll boo them as long and as loud as I can, and tell them to get the hell out of MY America.
He's biased biased biased.
Brokaw's son-in-law is an OU Grad and I believe both his son-in-law and Brokaw's daughter are doctors here in the local area.
I was at the game too -- it was hilarious -- made the Norman Transcript this morning too!
Stuff it! You are new on here and if you don't know why Brokaw was boo'd then I count you in the troll category.
Brokaw is detested here at OU -- I know the person who had to write the check and ended up being cut in half after Brokaw's speech. The University fund that pays speakers gave him half and I don't where he got the other or if he did. Knowing David Boren, he might have just paid him half!
On the way to my car after the game, I walked through my son's fraternity house so not to walk in the mud, and several of the guys were high fiving the booing of Brokaw as they had set through his speech as well.
Everyone around me boo'd and then dissed him again about the Commencement speech and the election -- complaining because he didn't call Nevada. Everyone that was at commencement that I know remembers him talking about Pres Bush being selected -- boy was I mad -- they didn't boo Brokaw during this speech I think because it was graduation even though they did Tim Russert several years ago. This was payback for Brokaw for commencement and for being such an arrogant person on election night and his spinning for Kerry.
Red States Rule!
And that speech you posted left out a lot that Brokaw said that is on my video tape. One of these days I may get irritated enough to transcribe the video that I made of my son's graduation and this speech.
The nerve of him to put this speech out as what he had to say. There were several of from here on FR that heard the speech and we all left with the same impression. My son's Dad is not exactly a political animal and he was furious at Brokaw for bringing up the Florida fiasco and blaming Bush. He is convinced from his speech that there will never be another Greatest Generation -- they really bugged us.
He didn't get boo's at graduation -- they were polite but David Boren was as stiff as a board after the first part of the speech that went okay and Brokaw left on a golf cart immeidately after his speech -- didn't stay for the reception.
We made up for it last night!
My two kids were sitting with me -- they boo'd along with my son's friend and everyone else in our section. We are Bush Country in our section!
Actually we had almost 85,000 at the game -- bet a good 80% or more booed as loud as it sounded. Funniest thing I have seen at a football game in a long time.
