Specter 'fuming' over homosexual snub
Co-sponsored federal hate crimes bill, but 'gay' group endorsed opponent
Republican Senator Arlen Specter is said to be "fuming" over the endorsement of his Democratic opponent in the recent U.S. Senate race by the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), according to the New York Blade, a homosexual newspaper.
HRC, the nation's largest homosexual lobbying group, endorsed Democrat Congressman Joseph Hoeffel this August. Specter had narrowly won his Republican primary against conservative Rep. Patrick Toomey and was hoping for support from HRC.
It was Specter's vote in July to send the Federal Marriage Amendment to the Senate floor that nixed the homosexual group's endorsement, even though Specter publicly clarified that he would have voted against it if it had come up for a floor vote.
Cheryl Jacques, executive director of HRC, said she had "no regrets" over snubbing Specter. "You dont get to play Monday morning quarterback. We stand by a solid commitment to records and equality. Those who support discrimination into the Constitution dont deserve our support. I expect that if Sen. Specter becomes the chair of the Judiciary Committee we will work with him. I hope he is focused on a fair-minded judiciary and policy for this country and I hope that he comes to regret his vote."
Specter is in line to become chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee a position many conservatives in his party want to deny him because of his support for abortion, hate crimes legislation and opposition to the Federal Marriage Amendment. With President Bush expected to fill several vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court during his term, all sides are focusing on who holds this position.
In 1986, it was Specter who led the successful fight against Reagan nominee, Robert Bork. Justice Anthony Kennedy who wrote the majority opinion in Lawrence vs. Texas, overturning U.S. sodomy laws, took his place.
Slime bucket.
Bork Spectre!
Maybe the gay groups were channeling Clinton when they told Specter they were "behind him".
"... 'fuming'? My dear, I'm positively livid! SNAP!"
I think he means "flaming".
IMO, this should be the proverbial "last nail".
Plus, I read a couple days ago that ole Arlen was the chief proponent and Author of the utterly ridiculous "Single Bullet Theory" that the Warren Commission came up with.
(must have had something to do with "Scottish Law")
~~Arlen mocking off~~
On the news stand you always find it on top of another of the same newspaper. Hey wait a minute, when you think about it ALL newspapers are gay...
So lemme get this straight - he voted for it before he had a chance to vote against it?
He certainly isn't a very good poker player, that's for sure.
Nobody wants Arken fo ranything. He's tun his course and now no one TRUSTS him!! He's a liar, Liar, Liar, Liar, Liar
Liar. No, chairmanship for Arlen, make him prove his Republicanism.
granted he f.. bork, but he did stand tall for Clarence Thomas which I am still grateful. Him and Orin Hatch. Not a big Specter fan, keep in mind though he is senator of a demoratic state.
BORK THIS FREAKING SCOTTISH LAW CLOWN!
DO *NOT* ALLOW KING ARLEN TO RISE TO THE CHAIR OF THE SJC!!
He voted for it,but he would'a voted against it.They should check the water supply to the Senate offices.
This is exactly what you could expect of Chairman Arlen---vote the judges out of committee, then vote against them.I think Specter should be forced to stand down and prove he will vote for Bush's judges, then maybe consider him for the chairmanship.
I've been telling people I have a shredder - because when I leave, my papers fool around and reproduce. Thanks, you just shot that theory to cr@p! :)
Anybody that wants backing from the queers and fagots in the HRC is no conservative friend of mine.
Specter is a RINO's RINO. He should just change his stripes and be done with it.
Exactly what I thought.
Why vote to send it to the floor if you're going to vote against it once it got there? I'm sure the vote was his attempt to appear "moderate" in an election year.
I voted against him anyway.
LOL!! Like 'bowling with bumpers'?
Headline made me wonder if he was in a gay bar and got turned down...more coffee please.
