It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.
Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.
Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.
I hadn't seen those articles -- bet that was part of the reason. Whatever it was, it was great to hear.
Heh.....look for a ping from me just now.
Typical hypno-lefty divide and conquer horsecr*p. Brokaw needs to put a sock in it- Why are ALL American generations not GREAT?? The 'greatest' gen my butt...
That game last year was awesome. No goal post torn down this time like they did in 2000! Great to see Josh Heupel back on the sideline as an assistant coach.
Figures. All the Rats like Carter and Clinton constantly claim our best days are behind us. Of course, if we keep electing people like them, they truly are. I like Reagan's shining city on the hill myself.
When Nebraska came out on the field, there were some boo's but not like Brokaw's -- they always boo the opposing team when they come out except for Baylor. You have to remember that Nebraska took advantage of when we were way down under John Blake to run up the score in the late 90's. Then in 2000 in our section we had some ditzy Nebraska woman yelling at us when Nebraska went up 14-0 about how bad we were, etc. -- she is still the talk of the section. Nebraska scored and she turned around and yelled at us instead of towards the field. As the game went on, she sat down and shut up. That was neat.
Fox does a louzy job IMHO.
Even the boo's were coming from the student body -- funniest thing I have seen in a long time at a game.
You posted the longhorns wrong. They should be upside down. By the way, look on the map and who do you see on top? Yup, that's us!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOMER! SOOOOOOOOOOONER!
Cannot wait to see Adrian Peterson with either Paul Thompson or Brett Bomar next year -- that should be a lot of fun.
Jason White looks good!
He loves to roam around at college football games, I guess. We had the same announcement at an Ole Miss game a year or two ago, "Ole Miss welcomes Tom Brokaw, blah blah blah." I gave him a HEFTY round o'boos.
MM
And who has beat Texas for the last five years? You guys almost lost to Kansas today didn't you?
My sentiments exactly! He was an idiot to come back to OU!
His son-in-law is an OU alum and huge Sooner fan -- only good thing he said in speech along with Beat Texas and the fact that he comes from the same state as Josh Heupel -- Brokaw is not Josh! Josh is really nice, conservative, and supports the President!
So, if OU sucks, what does that make a team that got shut out by OU? And only beat lowly KU today because of a bogus pass interference call? God knows the Big 12 is desperate for an extra BCS check this year.
BTW, I watched the game on Fox and didn't hear an announcement or boos. It might not have been picked up by the microphones or I might have been out of the room, so I'm not saying it didn't happen.
It was bad -- he didn't even stay for the end of graduation. President Boren is a very animated person and he sat there rigid as Brokaw launched into his attack speech -- didn't move at all. I saw Pres Boren when Rudy spoke at the Spring Convocation and he kept nodding and smiling as Rudy talked. I was taping the Graduation and Boren was stiff!
Both the PA announcement and the booing came through clearly on the radio broadcast of the game. One announcer asked the other "Why are they booing Tom Brokaw?"
