It was announced during the second half that Tom Brokaw was in attendance at the University of Oklahoma/Nebraska game at Owen Field in Norman. The minute he was announced, you could hear loud boos from around the stadium.
Have no idea how he had the nerve to return to OU after his debacle of a speech for graduation last May. I think he received louder boos then when Nebraska came out, and even more than the penalty we got for fans throwing oranges onto the field near the end of the game.
Chalk this one up to flyover country that detests the mainstream news media. You probably will never hear this from the media except our local radio but it was hilarious. Everyone around where we sit are Bush fans and after they stopped booing, they started laughing at the reaction of everyone. Then they launched into a discussion about how biased the so-called mainstream media was in the election and how people like Brokaw should stay out of the red states. It made me really proud of the Sooner fans -- this truly is Bush Country.
Auburn University is on probation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). This is the association that gives the school accreditation. The same organization that gives The University of Alabama and most other schools in the southeast accreditation.
I believe OU gets its accreditation form the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. This is very serious and could cost AU and the state of Alabama a lot of money.
Their probation stems from a few boosters and Board of Trustee members being too consumed with their football program.
I am surprised the NCAA would even let them compete for the national championship considering the circumstances.

"Cannot wait to see Adrian Peterson with either Paul Thompson or Brett Bomar next year -- that should be a lot of fun. "
PS I think his name is Rhett Bomar.
Yet another Texas player gets away.
==========================================================
Do you think that Brokaw actually wrote the book himself or could it have been ghost-written?
Good for the Sooners.
May the left wing progressive Brokaw receive boos across America.
I cannot imagine this happening at a University of Texas game in Austin, which is the place for Texans who hate Texas and America. Brokaw would be welcome there.
Links please, I thought Alabama was on probation, not Auburn. This is news to me.
Orange Bowl, here we come...
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS ABOUT AUBURN'S SACS PROBATION
December 11, 2003
The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) on Tuesday placed Auburn University on probation for a one-year period. While this sanction is both surprising and disappointing, Auburn is committed to addressing any legitimate concerns of SACS in an appropriate and forthright manner.
News of the SACS probation has already prompted concern from students, prospective students and their parents. While SACS has provided the university no specific details of the matters that merited probation, it is imperative that students and parents of students be reassured regarding Auburn's accreditation.
In an effort to provide that reassurance, Auburn University would like to make clear to Auburn students, future students and their parents the following:
AU remains fully accredited. Federal funding and student aid are not threatened. The SACS probationary period allows us time to prove our compliance.
The academic integrity of Auburn University is not in question. The SACS action that resulted in the one-year probation included nothing about the institution's academic quality. Auburn is committed to maintaining, even enhancing, the quality of its academic programs. The SACS probation has no effect on the day-to-day commitment of the University community to its goals of instruction, research and extension.
Auburn University either has or will address in an appropriate and forthright manner any legitimate concerns cited by SACS.
Auburn University is cognizant of the investment students and parents have in an Auburn education, and is committed to maintaining the high value of an Auburn degree. In addition, the University will endeavor to preserve its ability to receive federal funds for both the institution and its students.
Auburn University's regular accreditation review set for February 2004 will go forward as planned. The extensive self-study preparing us for accreditation reaffirmation is complete, and addresses all of the recommendations and suggestions from the University's steering committee.
After SACS provides Auburn specific reasons behind the sanctions, the University will communicate steps it has already taken or will take to immediately address those concerns.
The whole OU cheerleading squad, including the Sooner Schooner , were pretty special.
One of the Nebraska football players hit a Ruffneck leading with his helmet like the Ruffneck was a tackle dummy, knocking two teeth out, and pushing him against the brick wall before the game even started. Nebraska players were out on the field and this guy went after a Ruffneck.
There were quite a few more boo's against Nebraska as the student section was already in the stands when it happened. Not to mention John Blake was there along with Bill Young (his offensive coordinator at OU).
Okay, I'm pretty sure we need a source link to your eye for this.
Seriously, your report was hilarious and I am delighted to read about the crowd reaction.
Maybe Tom'll get 'em to stop announcing his presence?
Oranges on the field! LOL
Thought you might enjoy this.
Ha! Makes me proud to be an Okie.
True. But speaking as a lifelong (and generations long family legacy) Husker fan, there are no fans we respect more than those of the Sooners. They truly are a class program, fans included.
This is not Colorado we're talking about. When Sooner fans boo, it just means they favor the other team. Not that they're about to toss beer bottles at the opposition (and we have enough experience with the other kind to tell the difference).
Oklahoma versus Nebraska is (in my obviously biased) opinion the cleanest and purest example of sportsmanship and competition on earth. Which is exactly why you see Oklahoma fans bemoaning an inferior Nebraska opponent where most other opponents would be relishing and gloating. Nebraska fans were doing the same before Bob Stoops came to Oklahoma. It just doesn't feel right when either one is an easy win.
And, despite what seems like the norm, we really do tend to root for each other when playing for the title. It's not entirely selfless. It makes us look better when we beat the other one next year. And (in normal years) that is always the main goal.
So this year ... go Sooners!
Thanks for the link. I will take your opinion on the importance with a grain of salt (according to your FR page, I see your agenda and it is greatly suspect). I did find far more information on the subject in this article...

I am not a lawyer, but this seems like a witch hunt to me. But I think tommorrow more information will come out according to the special report page.
WAR EAGLE... (and will not stoop to your level and commend LSU with their victory). Wishing OU victory over your home state is pretty low in my opinion. But such is life.

I am very surprised that an AU fan would be unaware of the probation. I am not an AU fan and I won't be pulling for them. Alabama went on probation the first time because a few AU boosters paid Gene Jelks to fabricate some stories. That got the ball rolling. That's a fact (court records) and you must have missed that one too.
Alabama is down now because UT fabricated some stories that are now being proven to be lies.
I am not sure that UT would have won the national championship in 1998 if it wasnt for Bama's probation at the time. I am not so sure AU would have been able to compete for the national championship this year if Alabama didn't lose 21 scholarships because a bunch of false allegations that are now being proven wrong.
You say that you see my agenda and it is greatly suspect. That should be rather clear to you. Do I want AU to be shut out of the Orange Bowl? Yes.
Mike Price for Coach of the Year. No one else could have accomplished what has has done in just his first year at UTEP. He got set up by some people who did not want him as the coach at Alabama. He did do a stupid thing, but Sports Illustrated is going to wind up paying Price a ton of money for their defamation of him.
