When I was a teen ('71 to '77)this sort of statement mystified me and still does. I didn't know anyone who ever did anything (like drugs or booze or cigs.)for the image. Sorry. Most of what teens do IS for image.

Sometimes I wonder if that old saying, 'you will realize your fears' is really true? If so, people who are afraid of getting cancer from smoking really shouldn't smoke. The mind thinks, the body obeys.

"I go back to dungaree days-----LOL-----We used to roll the cuffs up,like James Dean." Yup. But bells look cooler on the dance floor.

I had a Drill Insructor who smoked Marlboros, and he could outrun anybody.

i think you're right.. she was a woman on a mission, not here to amuse even though she did those who could see it
i think her style was to explain what she sees as evil to the nth degree so even a child could understand it and democRATs have to concede her points because they can't refute them

Sorry. Most of what teens do IS for image.
In the matter of smoking (the subject under discussion)I and every other kid I knew tried cigarettes out of curiosity. Some LIKED the effect produced and others said "youse are morons, this sucks!"
I smoked my first cigarette alone and finished the pack in about 2 months--alone.
Kids are image conscious but, and this is memory of my own youth, on the BIG subjects they thought for themselves. It amazes me the degree to which people forget what it was like to be a teenager.

Sometimes I wonder if that old saying, 'you will realize your fears' is really true?So far, all my worst fears in life have come true except for the one where the psycho comes after me with a chainsaw. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Well, how 'bout it? Popeye and me have something in common. Both born the same year and both still smoke.

Have to admit I'm not a spinach eater, though. If worse comes to worse, I could always dry and cure the spinach and smoke it. Should taste better than cabbage leaves.

Am I the only one who doesn't like Marlboro Marine? How about this: Rough and ready
Or this:
True Grit - the real thing
How about: USMC -- Not for Girlie-Men!

Actually that should have been the "non-absolute". There seem to be quite a few of these on the loose in today's society.

Actually, steam rolling Bugs makes him 2-D. If you wanted to make him 1-D, you'd have to extrude him through a spaghetti machine. (I think there may be a plot line there.)
