When I was a teen ('71 to '77)this sort of statement mystified me and still does. I didn't know anyone who ever did anything (like drugs or booze or cigs.)for the image.

In the matter of smoking (the subject under discussion)I and every other kid I knew tried cigarettes out of curiosity. Some LIKED the effect produced and others said "youse are morons, this sucks!"

I smoked my first cigarette alone and finished the pack in about 2 months--alone.

Kids are image conscious but, and this is memory of my own youth, on the BIG subjects they thought for themselves. It amazes me the degree to which people forget what it was like to be a teenager.
