In another thread I guessed at this reality and now it's been confirmed.

For many pro-lifers, we could have a safe, secure society, with a flat tax, reformed tax code, the end of over-regulation, thriving business, a resolution to Social Security and Medicare that not only works but maximizes freedom and choice, we could end the hold of public schools on education, etc etc but if we had abortion, even in the first trimester, the pro-lifers would rather go with the status quo plus an abortion ban.

What a bunch of nutjobs.

Dear Skywalk,

I'd rather live in a poor society with many flaws in its political and economic systems, but that did not permit the slaughter of its young, than in the most otherwise-perfected and rich society that found acceptable the killing of over 1 million innocents per year.

Low tax rates and cheap capital seems like a poor return in exchange for the lives of small, defenseless, innocent human beings.

Nutjobs they are indeed. I wish the old Communist Romania was still in operation, so we could send them there to live in the kind of society they'd like. Contraception was illegal, abortion was illegal, and women who didn't have babies were forced to undergo medical examinations to prove they hadn't been doing anything to avoid having babies. The state controlled all jobs and housing, and handed them out to loyal Communist baby-makers only. All so the Great Communist State could have more workers and soldiers to fulfill ITS objectives. The fact that the people wanted to starve the Great Communist State, and wanted to spare children from the horrific life it provided, was irrelevant; the people existed only to serve the state, and what they wanted didn't matter a whit.

But without us nutjobs you could have... nothing. We came out in droves for 3 SUPREME COURT JUSTICES. You who believe in no compromise with the evil of terrorism, no compromise with the evil of communism, no compromise with the haters of freedom msut recognize that we believe in no compromise with the evil of the culture of death, the culture of SATAN. Fundie nutjob I may be but I talked to people and put up Bush/Cheney signs (over and over) and did my tiny part to re-elect the president.

In return we get a pro-choice AG and chastisement from fiscal conservatives/ social libertarians and the absolute disdain of the lagacy media. We don't mind being denigrated but if our labor is in vain we can and will redirect our efforts to something or someone else.

So, you're willing to sacrifice 3,500 innocent children PER DAY in the U.S. (150,000 in the world) in the name of those things that you mention!? I wonder how those children feel about it. I wonder how God feels about it.

While I believe that the war on terrorism is the top priority right now, a little perspective is still useful. More innocent children are killed per day in the U.S. than innocent people in the U.S. killed by terrorists in the last 100 years.

The sheer magnitude of this holocaust is beyond imagination. You may not notice the 55 MILLION innocents slaughtered annually by abortion worldwide, but I assure you that your God does. If you are around 40 years told, that means that approximately 2 BILLION innocents have been murdered by abortion in your lifetime. And your priorities are what? A flat tax? Tort reform? One day you're going to have to explain yourself to your Creator. How do you think He's going to feel about it?

Maybe, one of those 2 billion children was going to be the guy that cured Cancer. But, instead, his mother paid a butcher to dismember him and suck him into a sink. Maybe among the 40 million innocents killed in the U.S. in the last 40 years was a future Republican President who was going to bring the country together and get all of the things that you listed done and more. But, instead, his mother paid a professional murderer to inject his protective amniotic sac with a strong salt water solution causing him to swallow and inhale it into his delicate body while over a period of hours the solution burned his skin away. He died a painful, agonizing death and his mother spontaneously aborted his tiny, burnt corpse 24 hours later.

So, who is the problem? The pro-lifers or those who don't fully comprehend the consequences of their apathy and inaction towards this ongoing holocaust? We are worse than the Germans who intentionally ignored what was occuring in the Nazi death camp just outside the city. We have heaped condemnation upon them, but refuse to accept our own for letting this far greater holocaust persist.

What a bunch of nutjobs.

idunno. people who see everything as an "either/or" proposition might by a little nutty, as might people who offer up dissertations absent a grip on the big picture.

Yep, the people who let abortion be their only issue are just at loony as those on the left who obsess over their single issues.

Well said. The comments on this thread by the zealots offer ample proof of this.

Having read the WHOLE thing, the obsession with which this small minority (and it appears as only a half-dozen or so continuous posters) approaches the issue seems to crowd out all logic, all sense, all proportion. One wonders just how such obsessive singlemindedness was created in their minds, and what sustains it.

We are told that the vast majority of Americans do not favor legalized abortion; yet, it exists, and no amendment to the contrary has even a ghost of a chance of passage.

We are told, piously, that because of abortion, our nation might deserve to be conquered by Islamist barbarians.

We are told repeatedly of "millions" of "butchered babies", and some are accused of aiding that "butchery" by simply holding a differing opinion on the subject; an example of attempted thought control with hyperbole beyond equal.

We are told that ANY divergence from the most extreme, far-out position is to be the same as a "mass murderer" or (laugh) "serial killer".

We are told that Alan Keyes' loss in Illinois was NOT his own fault, it was OURS.

We are told that viewing this or that website, or reading this or that pamphlet, or book, will change our minds completely...yet, abortion is still legal.

We are assured that women who have abortions MUST enjoy it(!).

We are presented with arguments which actually support, in principle, those who murder abortion providers, blow up clinics, and generally behave in as depraved a manner as is attributed to their victims.

We are assured that, JUST THIS ONCE, a "litmus test" and an "activist judge" who "rewrites laws" would be "A-OK!".

One of the many reasons I am not "prolife" as is commonly defined here is the abysmal conduct and frankly insane behavior of the more extreme factions of that movement. They put the fiery sword to all the decent, caring people who honestly work for change of hearts and minds.

This ridiculous "demand" should further help to marginalize them. As do all their "efforts".
