I guess I'm kind of a 'leave-it-up-to-God' sort of guy and I have never tried to influence his mysterious ways one way or another. Even though I may not post on the prayer threads, I always read them and offer my heathen prayers in silent absentia. Can you do the same?

I guess what I am saying is that I DO believe (somewhere) that God has power and desire to help us here on earth. I can handle Mom's death, but I have little one's that need her around as an anchor.

Can I ask for prayer even if I am half-hearted in my own belief?

Have no anxiety about anything,
but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known unto God.
And the peace of God,
which passeth all understanding,
will keep your hearts and your minds,
in Christ Jesus.

Philemon 4:5-7

God Bless your Mom and your family. My Mama went home to the Lord, and to my Daddy this past summer. She had been ready to go for years, and we frankly prayed for God to take her whenever He was ready. She had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's about 7 yrs. ago, and for the last 3, was always wanting to go 'home'. Well she made it this summer; unexpected, but not unwelcomed by her kids who had watched this vivacious woman slowly retreat into a shell, not of her own making.

I'm glad your Mom and your family are ready. It will still be hard, but it will be easier to accept than if you had no warning and no time to say your goodbyes.

I hope her wake is a true celebration of her life. We were fortunate that Mama's was the only funeral at the time because others may not have understood the laughter coming out of the parlors. Mama was a fun person, and we had many stories to share with the people who came to tell her goodbye.

It is my belief that we are losing the greatest Americans who ever lived.

But then again, maybe not. I just stared at that sentence for several minutes lost in memories of my own father.

Maybe we aren't losing them. As long as we remember them, remember their courage in the face of adversities most of us can't even imagine, and try to live up to their standards and their ideals, well -- in that case we really haven't lost them. They live on in each and every one of us.

My father's voice is still with me; your mother's voice will still be with you as long as you live.

Don't delude yourself into believing that you are prepared for your Mom's death. I said the same thing. Guess what. I wasn't.....and I had six weeks to "prepare" myself. It's going to hit you differently than you think it will.

Nonetheless, prayers sent.

I think a lot of us here do the same. I know I do.

Prayers to our Lord, for you Mother. May He bless her and have Mercy on her soul.

Thank you all (poster and viewers alike) for your thoughts and prayers!

As of this AM, Mom is doing a little better and spent a fairly restful night. She has a little more clarity too. We'll see what happens from now on...

Again, thank you all so much! She'll hear of her prayer network of right-wing, intolerant, religious bigots (as we're so often portrayed) today so maybe she'll get a lift from that as well as your prayers.

You are a fine, fine lot of folks!

Even faith the size of a grain of sand is enough when you ask of God with a contrite heart.

And I can relate...my own mom is also a WWII vet who did serve overseas in North Africa and Italy, and she is approaching 84. The inevitable day is on my mind more as she gets older, and I too am preparing myself.

May God Bless you and your family with the knowledge that He cares for you as your mother loves you.
