Images from the Battle of Fallujah (lest we forget or take it for granted)

This thread honors the service and sacrifice of our Armed Forces, and reminds us of why we here at home can go about our daily business in peace. Street-to-street is the toughest type of warfare. Air cover is being flown by pilots from the USS John F. Kennedy, as well as the U.S. Air Force from bases in the area.

Is that a woman in combat, in the 4th pic from top?I initially wondered that myself, but as far as I know, we have no women in actual combat units. Support units in theaters of combat, yes, but not actual fighting units. Remember that many of these troops are very young -- 18, 19 years old. Some young, boyish faces can appear somewhat feminine, especially when all we see are the features minus clues like hair, physical build, and so on.

To all who say thanks for posting this thread, you could not be more warmly welcome. But our Armed Forces are the ones who deserve all the thanks.
M2C, I'm so sorry about the two Marines from the Central Valley who were killed in Iraq. In a small way, this thread honors them and all our Marines, soldiers, Air Force and Navy pilots fighting at this very moment in Fallujah. God bless and keep them all.

I bet there are five or six women underneath all that MOPP gear. Oh the humanity!

Meg, do you know how to ping the FR USO canteen and/or Armed Forces ping lists? If not, do you know who might? I'd like to invite all to join us in this small, but heartfelt tribute.

Such young kids now becoming such brave men. I pray that we honor them a lot better than John "Jenjis Khaaan" Kerry did after Nam.
And those pictures of our men carrying off a fallen comrade makes me want to cry, and I don't cry.

Women in combat support positions don't bother me, but women in direct combat, do. I'm hoping it's just a youngish-faced man.
