I had not heard those messages. Guilty as OJ and Clinton, but they nailed this one.

Could you please explain something to me?

I have never understood the import of the "Martha Stewart/meringue" evidence. One day I hear it was a terrible "mistake" by the prosecution.

Another day I hear that it was critical in establishing the timeline for Scott's guilt.

What exactly WAS the import of that TV program?

Scott had said MS was talking about meringue 12/24 just before he left the house to go fishing. The prosecution pointed out that MS had a segment on meringue--but the day before--12/23. They were taken aback, however, when the defense revealed there was, indeed, a mention of meringue on 12/24.

At first blush, it looked like a black eye for the prosecution--until they realized the meringue reference on 12/24 occurred at 9:49--or 19 minutes after Scott said he had left the house to go fishing. In the end, it helped the prosecution's case by whittling down the time for opportunity in Laci's disappearance.

"Ninja Dave got in and carried her off without a nanometer of physical evidence left behind. Ridiculous! I believe there was perhaps a preponderance of the evidence that he did it but not sufficient to vote for death"

Are you aware that Westerfield had a deal in place? He would reveal the location of the body, they would take death off the table. But then the searchers found the body before the deal was finalized. Then, after that admission of guilt, the defense went after her parents...he got exactly what he deserved, IMO

The OJ case was lost BEFORE jury selection.

It was lost when the idiot D.A. stipulated to a change of venue from Brentwood to LA Central. He should have agreed to a change of venue but insisted on moving it far, far away from LA.

He's a two-bit hack. He is all media hype courtesy of Susan McDougal - that's it. I know of what I speak. This guy is nothing. Peterson made a huge, I mean HUGE mistake, hiring this guy to represent him. He would have been much better served by a real defense attorney.

He is positively awful and the way he struts into the courthouse, literally, makes me laugh every time I see it. What a colossal joke!! I think Peterson did it, so I don't feel any remorse over his poor legal counsel, but the legal profession suffers greatly when this is the example of defense work that everybody sees. Positively awful.

After the boat fiasco Catherine Crier allegedly said that she wanted Geragos disbarred (or was it held in contempt?).

See my post 1640.

I agree with you absolutely. These media darlings are despised by the real lawyers.

My dad belongs to the Lawyer-Pilots Bar Association (hey, there's a specialty group for everyone.) They had a joint convention with the Flying Doctors years ago, and somebody with the Flying Docs had the bright idea of asking Bailey as a guest speaker. The lawyers threatened to boycott the meeting if he spoke . . .

Read your post - you are right. I should say your dad is right. Any attorney worth their salt would recommend to a friend or family member who was out of town that they ask around down at the courthouse who is the best in town - not the best known in town.

I practice with some people who are very, very competent - I wouldn't think of having someone else represent me if I found myself in trouble. Because I know the guys I am with are grunts - they know the law, they know the judges (as do I) and they know how the system works within this particular court system.

The one exception to this rule that I would make and this is a big exception is Geoffrey Feiger. He is simply a phenomenal trial attorney and knows his way around many, many courtrooms here in Michigan. I know he's big bluster (had dinner with him one time - he is not short on ego), but he is GOOD, I mean GREAT. He really knows what he is doing and he had Geragos pegged throughout this whole trial. Geragos is absolutely awful and because of a very, very poor decision in choosing his attorney, Peterson may be facing lethal injection. Not that I feel sorry for him, because he did it, but I would be shooting myself if I realized after the fact that my lawyer had his head up his &^%! Oh, well . . .

I blame his parents for that - they should have known better than to go out and hire him. And to think that they probably mortgaged their lives away to pay for him. What a tragedy! Again, oh well . . .

I guess just like people who'll think Scott Peterson is innocent.

Good point. If ever there was a case that begged for the death penalty that was it... Either Henry Lee isn't what they claim he is or he really did sell out to the highest bidder in that trial.

Marsha Clark was too busy flirting instead of trying the case and Chris Darden is a typical example of the lawyer that can't make it elsewhere so he goes into the DA's Office... they had one decent lawyer and he hardly ever showed up.

Maybe, just maybe, the next man who decides to kill his pregnant wife --thinking no one will pay much attention to the case -- will remember this case and think twice.
