Pres. Bush has now garnered a truly astounding 60,724,666 votes in the 2004 election, and there are still hundreds of thousands of votes remaining to be counted. Not only has Pres. Bush exceeded his 2000 total by more than 10 million votes, he has also broken Pres. Reagan's 1984 vote record by more than 6 million votes!! The AP election results which are linked to this post are way behind because they do not include an add'l 517,000 votes that Pres. Bush has received in CA plus hundreds of thousands of add'l votes that Pres. Bush has received in AZ, MD, NC, OR, RI, SC, and VA. See below for vote totals by state that was compiled from the secretaries of state websites.

Any idea if the gap is widening or closing from earlier counts?

"Will he get to 52%?"

Probably not. The reason is that a large share of the remaining votes are in CA. As a life-long CA resident, I've been paying special attention to the vote count in the Golden State. So far, CA has counted 1,065,000 votes since election night. Pres. Bush has received 517,000 votes or 48.54% which is significantly better than his election night % of 44.5. However, Kerry is still taking the majority which means Pres. Bush's national % is continuing to drop slightly.

Unfortunately, no. Bush has 50.96% now, and his lead has been shrinking ever so slightly. He had a lead last week of over 3.5 million and was a bit over 51% then, but now it's down to a lead of just north of 3.4 million. This caused him to slip under 51%.

"New York and California were the only real bastions of support for Kerry."

When you look at how each county voted for Kerry or GW, in California, Kerry carried only a few counties. We are gaining on the rats.

In 2008, I am placing some wagers ;-)

You didn't lay any cash money on GWB in 2004?

Next time I'm betting on Senate seats too.

Your words and work are encouraging.

Kerry won only 19 states....equals 38 Senators from states that support democratic national candidates.

That leaves 62 Senators from Red states....a real possibility in mid-terms to take over a filibuster-proof Senate. And that's not counting inroads into the blue states....and you 2 have shown that those are real, deep, and increasing.

When and where do we get Senator Ralph Reed?

No way. We need him to run the '08 and '12 campaigns if we want to win again. Success has many fathers but the GOTV thing is largely his.

"When and where do we get Senator Ralph Reed?"

Ralph Reed has been a miracle worker over the last two election cycles. In 2002, Ralph was in charge of Georgia when the Republicans wiped out the Dems with huge upsets in the Gov. and Sen. races and taking a large majority of the Cong. seats. This year, Ralph was Bush's Southeast Campaign Chairman which is one reason why I was never worried about FL. But can anyone believe Pres. Bush's vote total in the Sunshine State?!? Over ONE MILLION more votes than 2000. Ralph is AWESOME!

Well, strictly, wouldn't you round up? The .46 would round up to .50, which would round up the 51 to 52. Right?

"When you look at how each county voted for Kerry or GW, in California, Kerry carried only a few counties. We are gaining on the rats."

Almost 70% of CA counties have been won by Pres. Bush. Even coastal counties like San Diego and Ventura (and of course, Orange) have been won by Pres. Bush, and he has swept virtually all of the inland counties. The media in CA in unrelentingly negative toward Pres. Bush which makes his 45% showing very respectable.

Thanks. I could have got cheaper odds if I had bet more at the end when the lame polls were close.

On the left coast, the vote for GW was up in the 3 states.

One of the biggest changes is how conservative the legal Mexican/Americans are. This trend will continue to help destroy the Rat holds on the left coast.

Also, the radical gay push for gay marriages will probably cost them shares of the black voters who go to church and have a moral core value system.

Our elite west Jinos are a lost cause.

I know my percentages were a head to head comparison only.
It elimates the other 'noise votes' since Nader the only other candidate.
