'Bush Stole Election' Conspiracy Theories Debunked

Since ABC's Peter Jennings aired a whole host of election fraud conspiracy theories Tuesday night - suggesting that "maybe once again the country got it wrong" in last week's vote - the Canadian-born anchorman will undoubtedly want to interview Howard Troxler, columnist for the St. Petersburg Times.

While Jennings claimed he was performing a "public service" by covering the wild-eyed complaints, it's Troxler who has performed the genuine public service, by delivering the kind of report that ABC should have - but didn't.

Here are some highlights of Troxler's comprehensive analysis in today's Times:

CLAIM: Kerry really won Ohio.

There are still 155,000 or so uncounted provisional and absentee ballots. If by some miracle Kerry got almost all of them, he would win. A miracle. [Bush's Ohio margin of victory was 136,000 votes.]

Furthermore, there also were 93,000 "spoiled" ballots in Ohio that, had they gone to Kerry by a miraculously large margin ... uh, well, still wouldn't have been enough.

CLAIM: A voting machine in Franklin County, Ohio, recorded an extra 3,893 votes for Bush.

This is perfectly true, and one of at least two serious voting machine mistakes around the country. When the results cartridge of an older-generation machine was plugged in to the counter, it reported almost 4,000 extra votes for Bush, when only 638 people had voted in the precinct.

At the risk of being labeled part of the plot, I want to point out that they caught this obvious mistake. You can't "stuff" the ballot box. There is a signed, independent record of how many people voted.

CLAIM: Electronic voting machines in Carteret County, N.C., mysteriously "lost" more than 4,500 votes - most of the votes cast in the county election!

This one is true, too, and disturbing. According to the Carteret County News-Times, the county's machines counted only the first 3,005 votes and didn't count the rest.

The Carteret screwup didn't change the presidential outcome, but a couple of state races were close enough to be affected. Besides, the standard of "no harm, no foul" is not good enough. But I would point out that even this mistake was obvious and immediately detected.

CLAIM: Voting patterns in some Florida counties were suspicious because Bush got many more votes than the number of registered Republicans.

Several impressive-looking charts and graphs are flying around. MSNBC's Keith Olbermann singled out five Florida counties for what he called a "sudden" outbreak of "irregularities": Baker, Dixie, Holmes, Lafayette and Liberty.

In those counties, Republicans make up only 7 to 24 percent of registered voters. But Bush won there with between 64 and 78 percent of the vote.

How can this be? Easy. They are northern "Dixiecrat" counties where being a registered Democrat but voting Republican is an old habit. The same counties voted overwhelmingly for Bush in 2000, and his father in 1988 - when registered Republicans made up as little as 2 percent of the electorate!

That's just the tip of the iceberg of Troxler's analysis. We trust that the folks in elite media will take some time chewing over his full report before they lend any more credence to the kookball complainers who want Kerry to "unconcede" the election.

I hope all the Tin Hat Kook DUmies choke on their latte when they hear about this. Brit Hume had John Fund on tonite and he sot even MORE holes in these stupid claims of vote fraud and stolen and changed votes.

It gets more enjoyable every day watching the RATS come apart at the seams!

partisan politics is irrelevant here. we should find the correct result, even though im 99% sure this is bush. there is clearly some large discrepencies in a lot of places and this needs to be checked.

John FUnd tonite on FNC also pointed out that almost HALF of the 150,000 provisional ballots in Ohio that the RATS are so desperately hoping would go their way have been tossed out as illegal ballots.

He also mentioned that in PA there were several "voters" who gave a street address that was also the street address for Veteran's Stadium.

Gee...the MSM has sure been silent about the PROVEN voter fraud comitted by the RATS...but turn around and give legitimacy to the DUmmies crackpot theories about us!

Why am I not surprised?

I agree with you. I'd like to see a recount just to shut up these idiots once and for all. But the fact of the matter is the Rats will NEVER let this rest no matter what kind of proof is given.

it doesnt matter about shutting up idiots, it doesnt matter what side you are on: there appears to be faults in the process and these need to be addressed, whatever the consequence. the true result is the true result. i beleive this is a bush victory, but that matters NOT. the truth is out there!

Gee, why didn't Peter check the figures out before rushing on air with crap?

No bias here though.

I say let the Rats keep ranting and raving about all this nonsense and lunacy. It is only making them look more foolish than they already are.It is the last gasp of the pathetic Rats and their pathetic dying party.

NM is a non-issue now. John Fund reported on Special Report tonight that the ballot counting is officially over and the President won with a 5,000 vote majority. Mr. Fund also made the comment that Gov. Richardson was insistent that all the ballots get counted in hopes of turning NM to sKerry so he could brag when he made a run for PRESIDENT that he brought home NM for sKerry.

Well they just finished counting New Mexico and nothing changed - Bush WON. Official results are now posted.

I am sooooo happy about that--it's 'superficial', but I absolutely HATED seeing in 2000 that map, with blue NM sticking out like a throbbing sore thumb among all that beautiful red.

NM is a non-issue now

thanks for the information. i will drop NM from my list.

my point, however, is that systematic errors that fall in bush's category get caught and fixed, then blared all over msm as though there is a conspiracy. fraudulent voting, on the other hand, has hardly gotten a peep out of most corners of the msm. philadelphia, detroit and chicago have had noted irregularities this election and have been hotbeds of irregularities and fraud for decades.

Now that's funny. I'm happy someone knew what the address was to recognize it.

Over the last three days I have put in about 2 to 2 1/2 hours per day preparing a serious blog to examine the charges of vote fraud, which I find seriously flawed. I looked at both Ohio and Florida, but I went into great depth on the sunshine state, because the arguments for it were presented as based on "statistical analysis," which I found to be wanting in several respects.

You can "pop up" that post below:

As if the election itself wasn't satisfying enough, the kooky Left's delusional hysteria in the aftermath has been like icing on the cake.

The only semi-credible "journalist" I've seen following this so-called "story" about "voter fraud" has been that dingbat Olberman on MSNBC--and I'm not sure more than 20 people, including his family and friends, watches that pathetic excuse of a show anyway.

The DUmmies sure seem to be in a froth about it, though, and that's a good thing; at least it's keeping them off the streets and huddled in their basements eating bag after bag of Cheeto's and playing "X-Files meets Inspector Gadget on the Internet." LOL...
