Germany Bracing for 100 Wounded Troops

FRANKFURT, Germany - Medical staff at a U.S. military hospital in southwest Germany are expanding bed capacity to care for scores of wounded from Iraq, including many from the assault on Fallujah, officials said Thursday.

A planeload with 53 wounded from Iraq arrived Thursday morning and another with 49 more was expected to arrive Thursday evening at the Landstuhl Regional Medical Center - together making an anticipated 102 for the day, spokeswoman Marie Shaw said.

"We are very busy," Shaw said. "We have seen an increase of patient arrivals since the outbreak of the Fallujah conflict."

On Wednesday, 64 wounded were brought in.

The large number of wounded sent to Germany suggests that fighting may be more intense, at least in some areas, than the military had initially indicated.

Since the offensive started Monday, 18 U.S. troops and five Iraqi government soldiers have been killed, said Maj. Gen. Richard Natonski, commander of the 1st Marine Division. He also said 69 American service members and 34 Iraqi troops had been wounded.

Shaw said she did not know exactly how many of the wounded at Landstuhl were from Fallujah, because the hospital typically doesn't note such things specifically. "It's hard to tell," Shaw said. "We don't differentiate."

Landstuhl has long been a destination for wounded from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan and usually treats between 30 and 50 injured military personnel per day, Shaw said.

I just came back from Ramstien-Lanstull in Jul, they have the capability to handle quite a bit. The CASF I was at could hold 100 of the least injured pt. Any time fighting kicks up the # go up. We regularly got loads of pt up to 80 every few days, they were in different stages of injuries. Just pray that the people who take care of them have compassion..........pray for their safety in God's Hand.

Troll Posting Alert! Anything from Mercury News should be sent to ZOTland.

This is something I've noticed lately: the liberal media are almost SALIVATING when talking about casulaties in Falluja. It's almost like they want more, to justify (in a sick way) their position on the war. It's outrageous.

What is a troll posting alert? Would appreciate the explanation. I truly don't know whether you're suspecting me of being a troll or the Mercury News or both. Also my chance to ask: what is a ZOT?

Don't think such is recent nor will change . . . ever.

Then ignore the "crappy lefty news" and say the prayers. Geez. Whether the numbers are high or low, from the left or the right, the troops are the news. And, they do need the prayers.
