BAGHDAD, Iraq - U.S. troops found a hostage imprisoned in Fallujah, the military said Thursday. The man, who appeared not to be a Westerner, was chained and malnourished.

Marines spokeman Maj. Francis Piccoli said the man was chained and shackled at his wrists and ankles when troops discovered him Wednesday afternoon in a building in a northeastern district of the city.

Piccoli said he did not know the man's nationality but that he was not an American or Westerner.

The man had been beaten by his captors and was very malnourished, according to medical assessments.

A variety of weapons was discovered at the site as well, he said

It goes to show that the Coalition forces and Iraqis are not bombing indiscriminately or this guy would have been buried beneath rubble.

I heard on the TV that he was a taxi driver from Baghdad who had been taken about 10 days ago. He looked so relieved. I imagine he was thrilled when he saw the Americans walking in the door!

In a week, after our warm food has fed him and our medical care has restored his strength, he'll be on British TV calling us occupiers!

i assume you are saying this tongue in cheek. i have talked with a few older folks in germany who were taken captive by americans. they spoke highly of americans for treating them with dignity and respect and were glad the americans took them alive. one man lost a friend on the eastern front where he was not treated as well by the soviets.

this man will sing our praises.

"Looks like a blanket to me."

It's a poncho liner; they are fairly warm, and the guy is probably in shock, so keeping him warm is a good idea. They are personal equipment, so one of our guys probably gave up his own stuff to help this guy.

Thanks for the clarification. It demonstrates the goodness of our guys, sharing some of their own clothing to help a fellow human being in need.

I bet he wasn't. I bet he was even more scared. They are fed so much bullsh*t about how evil Americans are, he probably thought they would be amused and either leave him there or torture him or something. I'm glad that all that crap they tell their people was proved wrong, even if only to this one guy.

So true; he'll be a good witness for our guys' compassion and professionalism. It was obvious he was not a threat to our men, and they treated him accordingly.
