NBA player wants a rest 'cuz he's busy promoting his rap album

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana Pacers forward Ron Artest said Wednesday that he asked coach Rick Carlisle for time off because of a busy schedule that included promoting a soon-to-be released rap album, which led to his two-game benching.

Artest held a short news conference before Wednesday night's 102-68 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, and in his usual ambiguous manner, tried to explain why he was benched.

Artest said that he asked Carlisle for as much as a month off to heal his aching body and recover from a particularly busy schedule.

"My body has been aching, I was going to take some time off and I said it the wrong way," Artest said. "Everything that happened wasn't too negative. I kind of surprised the team by wanting to take some games off, just to get back together, maybe stay home for a little bit, rest a little bit and come back."

The season's only five days old, for chrissake!

Another reason why I can't stand the NBA (sorry, NBA fans).

Between this guy's attitude and Maurice Clarett (the hated enemy of my native Ohio), I'm getting fed up with athletes.

There have only been 5 or 6 games. Geez. I'd dump this player from the team just on principle.

Selfishness knows no boundaries in pro sports, particularly the NBA.

In my opinion, basketball is the greatest game, the truly Amrican game which was born over here and not a variation of European sports like football and baesball are. But the NBA is killing the game here. The Olympics fiasco show how the sport is waning in the US. Jordan masked the decline, but now it's there for all to see. I guess I haven't watched 10 minutes of NBA action the last five years.

For me basketball is college and school basketball. Buzz Peterson and the Tennessee Vols hold more interest for me than the whole NBA. The only thing positive about the NBA is that it's miles ahead of its ugly offsrping, the WNBA.

I agree with you on college basketball. It's exciting ... but then they grow up to be NBA players. Ugh.

If only the poor schmuck was a hockey player. He could be taking the entire year off. Maybe two years. Of course he would not be getting paid, but hey, it's only money, right?

Oh, I think Barry 'Mr. Steroids' Bonds, and Terrell 'Mr. Sharpy' Owens, can give any of the NBA Mr. Selfish guys a run for their money.

Artest reminds me of Leon from the Budweiser commercials. Literally, it would be hard to write a script for one of the Leon commercials that was any more ridiculous than this.

The owners need to do a 10 year lockout to get rid of this present bunch of dopes.
