ALBANY - New York Republicans don't have a lot of time to bounce back from their drubbing at the polls last week: The race against Senator Clinton is just two years away.
Defeating the former first lady, or at least tarnishing her image, will be a priority for Republicans nationwide in 2006, given Mrs. Clinton's status as the Democrats' early front-runner for president in 2008.

Alan is brilliant and would be a GREAT Senator, but hsi style seems to rub people the wrong way. I would voate for Alan for anything he wants to run for, but not too many other people will, apparently, and that is unfortunate.
However, as I said, running a black against Hitlery would draw out the full measure of her vitriolic viciousness (not to mention her out-and-out hate) and destroy her for '08 even as she wins re-election.
Saveage grew up in New York, but he has lived in San Francisco for years.
So Nita Lowey finally gets her turn?
Kerry is thinking about running again, as is Algore. I expect that Edwards and Clark will at least think about it. Should be interesting.
Zell Miller(R) NY for Senate 2006!
Well, Jim Buckley won, but that was a long time ago and it was a three-way race.
Now, if the GOP came up with a Republican more acceptable to the remnants of the Liberal Party (which I understand is going to try to get on the ballot again in '06) and the Conservative and Right to Life Parties agreed ona high-enough profile candidate, MAYBE that would be a Buckley scenario.
What is the Independence Party going to do? I assume Working Families will cross-endorse The Empress.
Willie Randollph lives in New Jersey -- Basking Ridge.
Nice idea, though.
And best of luck to Willie this year.
Speaking of which, as someone who has lived among (and dated) Dominicans in NYC, I really wish the GOP would do more to reach out to the community. Dominicans own more small businesses than any other single group within the overall Hispanic community. Moreover, despite being largely of African ancestry, they don't have the same cultural/historical baggage that prevent blacks from voting Republican.
The GOP actually opened an office in upper Manhattan (Santo Domingo North) last year, but never had anyone staffing it. No wonder we keep getting our a-ses kicked in NYC.
Rudy would have a much easier time claiming a statewide office-even if his opponent happens to be Charles Schumer-than a U.S. Senate seat, even if that seat is held by a woman whose policies and personality are detested by over forty percent of the population.
Remember that the objective here isn't to unseat Hillary-though I'd love to see that happen-but to damage her so badly that she doesn't have the capability to mount a serious presidential challenge.
As it is, I doubt that anyone in their right mind-that includes some people in the Democratic Party, believe it or not-thinks that HRC would be able to (legally) capture the White House.
Even if she gets over 60% of the vote two years from now-and that's an unlikely scenario, if you ask me-I doubt that she'd be able to cobble together an electoral majority for any prospective presidential run.
If we manage to hold her to 55% or below, to all intents and purposes, her political career is finished. That is, unless Hillary made some secretive covenant with Lucifer when she married Bill and which I'm not aware of.
Itching to see somebody slaughtered worse than Keyes? And give Hillary! huge momentum heading into her presidential run?
"Throggs Neck and City Island (East Bronx) have always been and remain GOP strongholds."
Molinari: a bisexual liberal with a history of drug use. Liked her Dad, but she's useless.
Crowley's district includes Jackson Heights, Corona and Whitestone, along with Pelham Bay and part of Baychester. All of those areas have historically been Democrat (with the first two crawling with legal and illegal aliens).
BTW: Throggs Neck voted for Barry Goldwater in 1964.
"Throggs Neck voted for Barry Goldwater in 1964."
I think Keyes did so so POORLY in IL because of his peculiar endorsement of "reparations" for blacks. That was a foolish move on his part, and I think it hurt him. So he got 30 percent, instead of 40 percent.
Perhaps, but he got 27% not 30%.
