The ancient Greek Archimedes said, 'Give me a place to stand, and I shall move the earth.' The battle over Arlen Specter quantifies the efforts to drag the United States further to the Godless Marxist/United Nations/Pro-Abortion/Pro-Euthanasia Left--or drag it back to the constructivist Right. The Supreme Court of the United States is the last of Archimedes' places to stand. If there is any doubt--like many asked themselves about Kerry--look at who is in support and who is opposed.
We must absolutely defeat Specter's bid or this will signal a deep divide--a conquerable split--in the GOP ranks. Such a perceived divide is already being pounced upon by--the MSM and the minority Democrats and their angry allies, who are bracing up for an absolute life-or-death struggle. For it is indeed about life and death: the lives of the unborn--and the swift and sure execution of those deserving the death penalty (the latter forbidden by the United Nations). It is about American sovereignty vs. submitting ourselves to the U.N. brood of vipers--and allowing our citizens to be 'tried' in kangaroo international courts. Those who would have Specter gatekeep President Bush's Supreme Court nominees are licking their chops. Furthering of their agenda has been delayed for four more years--yet they smell blood. GOP blood. Red State blood as we infight over whether a Republican In Name Only is enough of a Zell Miller to stand for what is right. Specter hasn't done so. Can a leopard change his spots? What would be the motivation? This writer sees no reason for him to change his spotty claim to be a stalwart conservative. Neither does James Dobson or many others. Specter's voting record--like Kerry's--is not something to brag about--except at a NARAL or MoveOn meeting.
Bush through Rove has said they would take Specter 'at his word.' This is in the context of if he is indeed Chairman but cannot be considered a strong endorsement. (Bush's actual endorsement of Specter this last summer, in helping Specter win his primary is still a mystery to this writer.) It may be helpful in considering Rove's recent statement (made after Specter's post-primary win in a published interview in which he committed to continue as a pro-abortion RINO) to recall a similar situation: Bush promised to sign the assault weapons ban IF it made its way to him, the chance of which we knew was the proverbial snowball's chance in Hell. It was diplomacy and perhaps a bit of grandstanding to get a few antigun votes--but this author wasn't too worried about Bush taking away our guns.
It is difficult to imagine Bush wanting Specter in a position to thwart the will of the People in a crucial--quintessential--presidential and Supreme Court era.
Indeed--Bork Specter.
