FORTUNATE SON
New York Post ^ | November 10,2004 | WILLIAM McGURN

November 10, 2004 -- FORGIVE Mindy Evnin if she's not up for cake and candles today. Even if she knows how important this birthday was for her son. On this day in a Philadelphia tavern, the Continental Congress gave birth to the Marine Corps almost a full year before the Declaration of Independence. More than two centuries later in Fallujah, America still looks to the Marines to do the job no one else can. ....

Beautiful.

G-d bless all the Marines, angels, veterans, and those out there keeping us safe.

Happy Birthday!

Besides my own time in the Corps I have two sons in the Marines, one of them in Fallujah this minute.

OOOORRRAAAHHH!!! Happy Birthday to and your sons, Marine!

I am VERY PROUD to claim the title of United States Marine because I get to share it with Marines like you, and your sons, and many FReepers, many of whom visit this forum with regularity.

As we celebrate the 229th birthday of our beloved Corps, we see the Marines in Fallujah continuing the PROUD tradition of rising to the occasion and defeating our enemies. We pray for the success and safety of our Marines, soldiers, sailors and airmen waging the battle there now.

I'm proud to be the mother of a Marine, sister of a Marine and daughter-in-law of a Marine.

There is just something special about you guys that never dimishes with time.

Happy Birthday, USMC!

A retired Navy Master Chief that I work with, sent me this in an email this afternoon, as a Happy Birthday wish, just as I was about to leave work.

It hit me right in the heart, as my chest swole with pride and my eyes blurred as they filled with tears of pride as well as sadness.

The Brotherhood of Marines and the bond that connects us is as strong today as it ever was. I thank my Navy shipmate for his warm wishes for our birthday, he said it real good.

Semper Fidelis, Cpl. Mark Evnin. May you rest in peace.

Thank you for posting that story, Leisler.

Marines are your best friends or your worst enemies.
The Marine Corps is the best fighting force this world has ever seen, but they're a whole lot more than that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MARINES, PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE!

Drop in on this thread for a little of our proud history:

Happy Birthday, Marines!

Brought tears to my eyes. What a touching story.

Happy Birthday Marines!!!

Happy Birthday to Chieftain---my Freepr Marine role model! You sure kept the true Marine tradition alive and well during this election campaign! Anybody that could get me out to an anti-Kerry demonstration ( my first demonstration since the hippie days, ha.) has to be a REAL Marine !

Thank you for posting this about the Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, VA. Anyone who is in the Washington, DC area from May through August should mark their calendar for the Tuesday Sunset parade held there, and don't forget your video camera.

I drove to Washington this past Sept 12 for the Veterans against Kerry rally (officially the "Kerry LIED... while good men died. Rally" sponsored by the Vietnam Veterans for Truth). A fellow FReeper, Sergeant Dave had asked me to take some photos of the memorial while I was there and I obliged him. I got to the memorial just at sunset that day after the rally and lunch, and it was as stunning as I remember it from years before.

I was fortunate to meet a former Marine, who is also a descendant of the Navajo code talkers and his wife, who happened to be in town on business from New Mexico. We had a great fellowship time and still stay in contact. He taught me how to say "Go BUSH" in Navajo: "Yaego BUSH!". The brotherhood of Marines is exactly as General Monday described it in the beginning of this post!

While in DC, I asked Chieftain to take some pictures of the Iwo Jima Memorial. I can tell you the pictures are stunning and moving. Good work, Marine, and thank you. Perhaps one day you can share these pictures on FR.

"Besides my own time in the Corps I have two sons in the Marines, one of them in Fallujah this minute."

Thanks for your service, An Old Marine, and that of your sons through all these years. Prayers for their safety now and in the future . . . with a prayer ping.

Thanks for the ping Chieftain. I'll be leaving for the veterans day parade downtown in about a half hour.

THANKS VETERANS AND ACTIVE DUTY

Thanks. I really enjoyed reading that as well as the book written by the Corpsman's son, "Flags of our Fathers". He researched each of the flag raisers lives for 5 years and really provided insight into what made the normal guys tick. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
